Don't want to sound panicke.I deal every day with these.Nothing could surprise me now(especially after I was hacked because I let my machine running on root).
But what I don't understand is why UBI is pinging my machine?First of all I didn't subscribe to any UBI service.Secondly,I didn't gave them any information,I don't even registered IL2,FB,AEP to UBI.Why is that?
I doesn't bother me too much, because I block every intrusion on my machine (in the screenshot you can see iptables hit list on my router),but I would like to know how they got my IP.I really like to ask UBI for breaking privacy.
See the screenshot.

I don't understand. Aren't you on the UBI website? How are they breaking privacy? They are probably trying to access or place a cookie for your login.

Sorry to say,no ubi.site, now I'm writting from my windoze box.
I'm still checking to see if I did register any service to ubi.Besides, all cookies are DISABLED on my linuxbox. No cookies. Is that simple.
Point is that if I access ubi or whatever server I don't do it from the router.I am doing this from the box itself! Why cookies on router?Oh whatever!
I am not worried at all.In fact I will edit the title of the post because it sounds scarry http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

PS: 1.For ubi.com I always login AFTER I enter. If I want to post.I login then and only then.
2.There are few other sites where I DO have cookies enabled to keep my password since I do not visit them that often.Guess what? They are not in the hit list.

What do you expect?UBI is a profit company like all of them. The law doesn`t seem to be efficient enough to pursuit software pirates and with big companies it certainly isn`t different.

Oh yeah we can fine them.Bill`s got 100bilions$ and he pays fine 20 milion $ pfffft!

Oh,I don't care too much.I just don't understand why on the darn router. The cookies(if they are enabled) are not kept in there! But on the machine I'm writing this stuff.Or maybe I'm too tired looking at these lines. Is always fun to watch this hitlist, just to see who's freakin' your machine. You'd be amazed to see who's fingering your machine on a daily basis, hehehehe.

Flux crashed many times on me fro no reason. If there's something light I would try is xfce ( a flux on steroids http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif ).Or Window Maker. Never tried the father of flux, blackbox, but I believe it's the same as flux.

There are not only cookies, it seem there are some scripts on ubi webpage. I have something processing from time to time.

What made me wonder even more is that when i installed AEP, i noticed that FB/AEP make a web access upon launch. I wonder why, as i never install ubi services, not even the one coming with the game.

Can anyone post the incoming and outcoming packets for comparison ? Also the "Proof" picture above is little small and unreadable.

High Ground is not only more agreeable and salubrious, but more convenient from a military point of view; low ground is not only damp and unhealthy, but also disadvantageous for fighting.

Guess every time you log onto the forum you get cookies on your PC, there's no way around it.

Maybe in your case it could be a failed installation of the ubi gaming client: say you stopped it from installing but it had already started to do so and now it lives on your PC and pings ubi back.

Or it could even be a trojan camouflaging itself as ubi, who knows: just have a scan with your antivirus then use both Spybot ( http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html ) and Ad-aware ( http://www.lavasoft.de/ ) and it should get rid of whatever it is.

I don't understand what cookies would have to do with anything.

First of all, if you've used the web-site, they know the IP address of your machine, otherwise all attempts would timeout (since they couldn't send you the web-pages to look at.)

If you're using NAT (which seems reasonable) then the address of your local machine is not exposed (probably a local 192.168.*.* or 10.100.*.* addr, right?), but that of your firewall is.

If your firewall is configured in a reasonably safe way, it will ignore all attempts to ping it, all contacts any port that is not tied to a NAT session, or is not an open service.

I can't say that I can see any reason for the forum to ping you, but that's another story.

UBI is the only, I mean the ONLY website I have to "allow" functions to work...I visit a dozen sites daily.
UBI insists on pinging, accepting 3rd party and persistant cookies.
I've been told over and over its "nothing to worry about"....ah, but why does Ebay, Adclick, SiteproNews and other sites that tell you upfront your personal information is not sacred let me in with tighter settings?
oh well
And thats the reason after this last install I didnt let anything other than UBI (this website) install, if you fly on UBI, you are letting the boogie man in.

Well, being at home now, I'm looking in my firewall log as I write this. The total number of hits from ubi is 0. Nothing. I drop (and log) all ICMP packets, and all TCP attempts, other than to sessions initiated by me (except for e-mail and ssh, since I host those services.)

I'm fairly sure that this whole thread is just a bunch of nonsense. Well, the forum does require cookies to work, but that's hardly a danger.

Ah Ivan,I am not paranoid at all.I like to believe that my firewall is bulletproof.I have checked last night all ports and services on the router.Everything is closed. My "complain" was why is ubi is fingering me.To be honest, didn't see any trace on my machines behind firewall.I remember that if you had to use IE on UBI you were ALWAYS prompted that ActiveX must be enabled in order to see the site. Was a warning, nothing else, but why one should enable ActiveX controls? There is no explanation whatsoever.Since I quit IE for a year now, nothing happened.Still,I do get occasional pings from ubi.com even if I'm not logged into their site. As I said,is not a big deal,I know how to handle this.In fact I will try to ban ubi.com from my list to see if I can log again onto the server.Probably is nothing, but I can't stop myself asking why.

Bjorn,
It could be a nonsense the whole thread. It might be. But this : 'Well, the forum does require cookies to work' , this is total nonsense.Cookies are used to keep track of yer settings on certain sites in order to remember your settings next time you are logged in.Since on my machine cookies ARE NOT ALLOWED and I can still use this forum , is clear that is not a cookie problem.Let's just drop it I suggest,I'm pretty sorry I opened this subject now since I didn't detected any harm done to my system(s).One thing is for sure. There are sites where I have cookies enabled (justlinux.com,linuxpackages.net etc) and guess what , they are not fingering me.Isn't that cute?

I'm fairly sure that this whole thread is just a bunch of nonsense. Well, the forum does require cookies to work, but that's hardly a danger.

When I loaded the last patch, I noticed that when I went to play the game offline, my firewall alerted me to the fact that IL2FB was trying to access the internet. At first I thought: Hmm...that's odd, but then I realized how silly it was: I mean, I've already sold my soul to UBI, who cares if they're looking? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif
