I'm very excited to see what SS3 will be like. The thing that killed SS2 was the static campaign. However as much as I like playing the Nazi side, are there any plans for an american version? Or are there any plans to re-release the original silent hunter for WinXp? It couldn't be that hard to change the game file systems est. You wouldn't need to update graphics or sound files, just modify it to run on Winxp. Oh well just a thought. It would be nice to roam the Japanese homeland and sink the Yamoto again!

First of al it isn't SS2 and SS3, it's SH2 and SH3. And yes, the scripted campaign hurt a lot SH2, but SH3 will have a dynamic campaign.

You'll just have to wait for SH3 mods. And there's already a mod for SH2 called Pacific Aces, where you play in the US sub side against the Japanese. And if SH3 is a financial success (money), there will be a DC2 (Destroyer Command 2).

SH1 for XP?? Nah, it would be better to wait for SH3 and play SH2 while you wait. And it isn't that easy. They would have to rebuild the game's code again. It seems that you aren't aware of all the news about SH3 that surround you right now. Go and read all new topics in the forum, and visit the official website of SH3 and read everything you see and of course download all the videos and take a look at all the screenshots. Trust me, it will clear your mind about this.

Kapitanleutnant--Martes86--Mix,
NOT everything is mod-able. Regardless of how the Dev team have said that there will be the ability to Mod the game, it does not mean that we do every and anything. I also recollect that it would require proffessional tools.

Also, what made the Aces Pacific mod what it is, was the DC component.

Hopefully SHIII will live up to the incredible promise that it shows and that the Dev team illicite even from a cynical old salt like me and release 6-9 months later a SH IV - The Pacific!

Cheers,

Teddy B¤r

Thats a good thought.

I would buy both.

Now look at that sea and imagine a amada battle like pirates of the caribean, Sails flapping etc. That also would be a great feature to develop with this engine.

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif Say German side, not Nazi. I don't think anyone wants to play for the Nazis. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Btw, I can play a SH1 demo on XP (with no sound though)

REF "...the NAZIS side..."

Although there is the probability that there were one or two fanatics ie Nazis on board U-Boats in general there were none. Well I havent heard about any as such anyways.

The Unterseebootwaffen was similar to the Wehrmacht in that they were 'just' an Army of men serving their country and did not have fanatics in them. The fanatics were all in the dastardly notorious and infamous SS or SD( Sicherheitsdienst Gestapo)

So to all and sundry who play SH3 or any of the SH series you are NOT re-enacting Nazi's, just regular German naval men.

It is quite true to say that the regular German Army and Navy actually hated the SS and fanatics.

<snip>

Remember that not only nazis made wrong choices. The normal people where as just as responsible for letting it all happen.

I enjoyed some of the comments. (Getting a little picky of SS3 vs SH3) I'm really looking foreward to SH3, but I played the U-boats to death with Aces of the Deep and SH2. I kept a Win/95 partition on my computer for the original Silent Hunter, it was and still is a great game. I'd just like them to re-issue it for win/xp. The South Pacific is more interesting than the Altlantic. The Jap main land, Formosa, Leyte, est. Nothing better than a fully loaded Balao Class sub though the Type VII-C/41 is close.(Also I'd like to see an update on Great Battles of the Pacific, so I could take the Wisconsin for a spin and knock the **** out of the Yamoto.)

Besides that, the 'Silent Hunter' franchise started with the American Campaign. 'Aces' was the German Campaign. I know, because I'm an old ******* that's been playing sub and battleship sims since there were sub and battleship sims!

Are you really so old? I played Silent Service back in '85, but I've been playing tabletop wargames since the early '70s (not to mention playing real sailor in 1969). I agree with you about playing in the Pacific, but a lot of people don't find it nearly as intertaining.

Have you tried Pacific Aces? It's a Silent Hunter II mod that's actually better than the original. Also there are several graphics, sound and realism mods that have improved SHII greatly.

That said, it looks like SHIII is going to blow them all out of the water; and they have hinted that if it sells well there will be Pacific Ocean and surface warfare add-ons (or whole new games).

The first 'computer' game I played we had to use punch-tape/cards and the output was on a teletype machine! What was the game I played?
