Just a spitfire, low res doesn't help though. I don't see why there would be a corsair in that pic. Its supposed to be two spitfires.

Gull wings and a radial engine, is a Corsair. That is no Stuka I have ever seen.

Good eyes.

Or its a broken P-47, but it sure isn't a Spitfire either http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I agree it´s a Corsair too... No way that´s an Spity. And really doubt it´s a Stuka.

But what the hell is that doing there??

horseback
05-06-2004, 07:06 PM
Corsairs had retracting tailwheels. The tail looks kinda squared off to me too. I have to go with the Stuka with its main gear shot off theory...

cheers

Definitely two Spitfires. See http://www.simhq.com/_air2/air_078b.html , look at the first (upper left) and second (upper right) pictures. The first is plane #01--note the altitude, heading, and speed on the speedbar. Do the same with the second. Then read the story about 1 White and 2 White Spitfires...them is them. Furthermore, note the tailwheel. And the fact that the rear of the elevators are forward of the rear of the rudder (just like on a Spit--NOT like a Corsair). Furthermore, go into object viewer and if you play around with the angle and the zoom (using the mouse), there is a position where the blockiness of the picture shows a wing similar to the one in the picture.

Sturmvogel66 has it right.

Don't get my hopes up like that, StG77_Fritz_X http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

And yes, I spent WAY too much time studying this http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

This is a picture from the SimHQ mission article mentioned in the main FB website ("Sachas's Grandmother Visits"). IIRC no Stukas were on that mission. The QMB setup described at the end of the article specified a pair of Bf-109 G-2s and a pair of G-6s on the German side and 2 Spit Vs and 2 Yak 1-bs on the Russian side.

Look at the tail particularly the rudder and the tail wheel.. then go to the object viewer and look at the Stukkas from that angle.

It's a Spit...period. The location of the elevator and the radiator under the right wing are the tip-offs.

Nope it's another Spitty I think. The angle may make it look odd, but I think that we're just not seeing the other end of the wing root flattening out the wing. Doesn't look like a corsair to me.

adadaead
05-07-2004, 02:02 PM
It another Spitfire, it can't be shtuka cause there is no rear gunner, and the proppeler looks spitfires and the wing are just shadows or sunlight or some guy made a Corsair addon, but if there is no addon makers here, then there is no Corsait cause ITS NOT IN THE GAME,

Couldn't a guy who played the game just press the Shift-F2 buttons and circle thru aircraft that are on his Allied side or just get closer to the aicraft

Corsairs served in the ETO, on British carriers. I don't know the specifics, but they were there.

Famously the Corsair took part in the FAA
attacks on the Tirpitz. I believe it also saw
action in the Med.

Early on the Corsair was a land based plane
only before the FAA helped develop the
techniques required to make it successful from
a carrier. There were plenty of land based
fighters that the USA had that could be
deployed from the large carrier that was the
UK, so the added complexity of another land
based fighter wasn't needed. And then later
on there were land bases on Europe itself and
the P38, 47, and 51 could range widely so again
there wasn't really the need to add more types.
In the Pacific it was a different game
entirely. So I am guessing that in North Western
Europe the USA didn't see the Corsair as vital,
and its production could be better used
elsewhere.

The FAA, though, decided that the Corsair
was useful to their remit, if flown from
a carrier, so they used it.

So basically, what your saying is that if it was not a game then it could be a Corsair or Typhoon?

I also like how you tell us to stop guessing and then guess yourself.

How original.
