Good subject. I'll be interested in the results. Speed, I've read, was the pilot's best friend. It allowed him to pick his fights, overtake opponents when he had an advantage, and run when he didn't. The P-38, for example, did well against the more agile Zero. If I'd been a WWII fighter pilot, that would be my choice, I think.

In FB, trying to fly FR without Track IR or other hi-end interface devices...I want "Cockpit Vision." Very subjective.

Winning isn't everything;
It's the only thing!

I'd say other and in this order:

1) cigarette lighter
2) cooler
3) 12 CD Disk Changer
4) Speed
5) Maneuverabilty
6) Durability
7) Visibility

If you say 50+ mph faster and 30% greater acceleration, than an enemy plane then I would pick speed.

BUT,

If you say 15 mph faster and relatively same acceleration, then I would pick maneuverability as being more important to me. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I agree with Zen, speed, climb and dive is most important.

I'd say "Engine" but it could glide so I guess "Wings" is the most important.

(Insert between lines: I don't think any single aspect is the most important for a fighter, the designer can't be sure what his plane ends up doing)

Its an good poll but very subjective. Given all stated qualities being equal and a boost for one just slightly more, I enjoy fighting low and prefer maneuverability .

I picked speed, but that would encompass like Zen said. Climb rate or rather IMO Zoom Climb rate and Dive Rate are also very improtant in the speed game.

more reality damage effect/result and need more sign showing of damage effect/result on plane itself to let us know what's wrong with plane (caption texts on screen). It is like something pilot noticed vibration or movement talltale signs as most pilots know what's wrong with it. Please not something so advanced like pilot have x-ray eyes to look at damage, just feel it. I never pilot a plane myself but have some friends fly light planes and tell me about bond to plane that can tell them. Gun jammed, not only from battle damage but G-plus and reliable even too long firing. Wouned pilot that will have difficult to control plane even distrot vision as normal pilot can depend what/where/how bad wound is.

Also I remembered we have a Chuck Yeager P-51 simulation that have multi charts that show postive/negtive g-plus, energy managment, notify damamge like control line broke even specific fluid leaking and more as I can not remember all. That's one thing I wish we can have multi-charts and effect of flying.

Firepower would be nice, although the ability to get outta Dodge alive is always a big plus. Put me down for Hyperdrive and broad beam Death Rays, in that order.

Cheers

SURVIVABILITY. the fighter that will keep me alive with best odds of getting home. and in ww2 that fighter was the P-47 Thunderbolt. id take a P-47M over any other fighter in the war. because its the safest. any other answer is pure baloney if its the real deal.

I believe DURABILITY is a huge strong point! If some of the a/c did not protect&armor thier pilots it would have shorted a lot of the ace's careers.
