Hi there, I recently bought iL2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles. A few days ago i bought the Aces Expansion Pack. I havent played it yet but im hopefully going to play it on Wednesday when i have a spare moment.

When i went into my local game store, ironicly called Game. They had an expansion pack called iL2: Forgotten Battles: Battle over Europe. And it was ‚£25. ‚£5 more than Forgotten Battles. And ‚£10 more than Aces (which is relatively new i believe?) And i was in the same shop i bought Forgotten Battles from.

Anyway my first question is:

Why is Battle over Europe more expensive than the original game and more expensive than the latest expansion pack? Also ive noticed there is no support for it as in the Ubi.com game servers. And no mention of it on www.il2sturmovik.com (http://www.il2sturmovik.com)

And my second question is:

Are Pacific Fighters and Battle of Britain going to be new expansion packs for Forgotten Battles? And if so, when will they be released and how much are they expected to be? And why dont you release them together?

Battle Over Europe is a 3rd party add on with offline campaign missions and skin packs, etc. Going by most reports I have seen it is a good product, and an addon has been released recently as well. I have no idea why it is more expensive though. I wouldn't buy it if it is still at ‚£25. Wait till Game has a used version going for ‚£10 or summit like that.

There are two others far as I know called Barbarossa, and Combat Over Europe.

Pacific Fighters is a stand alone product using the current Forgotten Battles game engine with a few tweeks. It may or may not be backwards compatible (yet to be decided). It should be released later this year.

Battle of Britain is an entirely new game with a new game engine, focussing (obviously) on the eponymous conflict. It is estimated it will be released in the latter part of 2005.

Hope that helps.

whit ye looking at, ya big jessie?!?!

Cool thanks mate, im gonna have to get Battle Over Europe brand new because Game doesnt sell Used PC games. Due to people just copying them onto a new CD or onto their harddrive and then taking it back. Which is fair enough.

Im gonna get Battle Over Europe in the following weeks because otherwise i cannot play with some of my clanmates who use Aces and BOE.

As for Battle of Britain being a stand-alone product. Im guessing it will have the iL2 Sturmovik brand name in front of it? Because there already is a flight sim. And a very good one at that. (not as good as iL2 though.)

Clarification. You do not need BOE to play BOE missions with your friends. I have it and I host games for the rest of my squad. Half of them do not have BOE and they can play along wih the on-line campaign missions just fine.

That said, I recommend BOE if you can afford it.

If you are able to order online, Game UK stock Battle over Europe for ‚£14.99, plus P&P (about ‚£1.50), so you could save yourself some cash, although they are out of stock at the moment. Have a look at:

"As weaponry, both were good, but in far different ways from each other. In a nutshell, I describe it this way: if the FW 190 was a sabre, the 109 was a florett, or foil, like that used in the precision art of fencing." - G√ľnther Rall

Look Noobie, we already told you, we don't have the Patch!

BoE offers dynamic campaigns, while AFAIK the other two only offer static missions and skins. BoE thus gives rather a lot more variety for similar outlay. That being said, IIRC both the other two were released before the game engine supported dynamic campaigns.
