Were they really this bad?

I was under impression that La5 was a bnz type aircraft that was able to dive?

Anyone have data that supports these current breakup speeds?

Weight empty: 2.650kg
Loaded:3.360kg
Max.speed:647kmph
Cruising:622kmph

This is from czechloslovakian testing, and info from the czech gov. The data I have also said the la7 armament carried 4 rockets, " four 82 mm rockets or 150 kg. bombs. "
It just shows you the difference between russias "propaganda testing or be killed" back in the 40s and other nations who tested these fine aircraft.

I also have info on the czech squads that flew them for russia, red russian star and a red heart on the left engine panel, I will give more info when my skins are finished

Recon they were wood

after learning just how complex their wooden A/C making capabilitys were , i still find it amazing just how fast these wooden A/C could go before breaking

Late 109s were partially made of wood if I recall.

La's in particular had factory production problems not to mention that the wood construction and the typical design constraints and you had a plane that broke up in dives much easier than a all metal aircraft. Most of the Yak's and virtually all La's were turn fighters essentially - or at least thats the way they seem. With the exception of the Yak-9U anyways...which seems more like the P-51 in being sort of capable dogfighter and BNZ'er.

the all metal Yak-9U breaks at an earlier speed than the wooden Yak-3 : )))
