displays more wear and tear, as evident in the photos taken of the plane. Thanks to SKIDRO_79FS for providing the research, and fantastic write-up in the read me file, for this project.

You never have to wonder about the quality of Hammered's work. It's ALWAYS top notch.

Great job yet again Hammered. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Hammerd it was a pleasure, believe me and the end product shows the amount of effort that has gone into this excellent skin.

Before anyone jumps up and screams that they have seen this aircraft with yellow in the group quick identification markings and spinner tip take a look at the second plane in line in this picture...

http://server5.uploadit.org/files/SKIDRO-lineup2.jpg

That is P-51D-5-NA Serial # 44-13760, coded MC-Z, also known as "GlenGary Guy".

Though there is a photograph that has appeared in a number of books that appears to show the plane with a yellow stripe it is now believed that through the poor quality film and processing of the time and multiple copies from a photograph and not the negative that it has somehow developed an overall yellowish tint to it. It's fooled alot of people including Osprey Books and Aeromaster Decals.

BTW if you download JG1_Rathofer's "Cindee Lind" skin you will have this same aircraft after it was reassigned to the 77th. Fighter Squadron and given the code LC-I.

Thank you, SKIDRO.
It was your' enthusiasm for, and knowledge of, "The Fightin' 79th" that convinced me to correct the errors I made in the first release. Actually, very little of the original skin remains intact. I learned a lot, and came away with one of the best skins I've ever done, IMO.

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

I'd ask for a P38, but the mapping and such is so bad i wouldnt want you to get frustrated or waste your time http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Hammerd, if you do take up the dare to do a P-38 I got plenty of pics to choose from but I have a specific plane in mind that I don't think anyone has ever done a skin for. (Hint Hint)

BTW those of you who want a realistic P-38 (well, as realistic as can be done considering the mapping problem) check out ATS43's revised version of "Susie", the mount of P-38 ace Capt. Lindol F. Graham, it's another outstanding skin with alot of research behind it.

I'd also like to give a shout to Skidro-who seems to be putting alot of time and research into the history behind these skins!

Thanks so much to you both-it's just what these sim needs!

I'd like to see a P-38 Hammerd skind too!-but I also don't want him to waste his time!

Thanks Rogodin, it's my pleasure to help out.

Anytime I can help preserve the memories of the great men who sacrificed so much so that we can enjoy the freedoms we have today I consider it work worth doing.

BTW great screenshots you did of this plane!

By chance do you know or have pics of the 38 Charles Lindberg flew when he got his unoffical victory? I think it was during the flights to show the pilots they could fly at 1600 rpm. He may have gotten 2 vics. That would be a historic skin for Hammerd. BTW IMHO Hammerd is in the top five of all skinners!!!
