View Full Version : Why don't the IL2's fight back in quick mission mode?

I love furballs with IL2 Type 3M's and Me110's, Nice fun match up, problem is only if I'm flying the IL2's do my wingmen attack the 110's, if I fly the 110's the IL2's just stay in perfect formation and get murdered.
Anyway to get them to fight back? Same with most other bombers, theres no way in hell Stuka pilots would stay in formation and depend on their tailgunners if they got jumped by fighters. It seems unrealistic to me.

Any config hacks or fixes available?

Well, bombers have better things to do than fight fighters. They don't carry their bombs for nothing.
But there is one IL-2 type that is a fighter: The IL-2 I. This one will actually dogfight. That was the easy part of my answer.

If you know how the Full Mission Builder works you can design/edit the mission so that other IL-2 types will also attack you: For each flight place a waypoint near the rendezvous position, then use the 'Set' button of the waypoint tab to assign the BF-110s to be the IL-2's target. This makes the IL-2s more aggressive.

And how to move a mission from the QMB to the FMB? Save a .trk track of the QMB mission, open it in Notepad and copy the first section (from [MAIN] to [NStationary]) to a new Notepad document. Save it as xxx.mis file to a folder below \Missions, then you can open and edit it in the FMB.

I was target practicing IL-2s in a QMB once (because they last for so long), and I was on the tail of the lead plane in a formation (early IL-2, no tailgunner). All of a sudden, the one behind him opens up, his anti-tank gear tearing my little fighter into tiny peices. I felt so violated.

far as I'm aware, aircraft which are carrying bombs (bomber and ground attack and fighter/bomber aircraft, not fighters) will not dogfight with you.

BUT, if you do not put bombs on any of the aircraft, then some of them will fight back!!

I have QMBs where B-25s have come after me!!! And Pe-2s!! And Stukas!!

I suppose I could test them all out to see which fight back and which don't, but I would simply say that when you load up a QMB, and you wanna furball with some non-furballing types of aircraft, just leave them with default ammo load!!!

Stukas? I've never seen a AI Stuka fire its guns at another enemy plane, even though it would just annoy the other pilot...

Tooz is correct on that.Btw you guys who blah blah about bombers fighting fighters should be on the lookout everytime AI drops their bombs. It takes one offensive pass for AI Me110,IL2 or Pe2 to tear you in two.Be afraid of anything flying that has guns.

If you want them to fight back, try the IL-2I.

But I certainly think that any IL-2 with no mission should at least try to defend itself. They all make decent fighters, especially the earlier models.

Violated? I know how you feel. I was attacking Hs 129's the other day (the one with the huge f*ck off cannon). Overshooting the 'plane at the rear slightly I carried on through the formation to take a shot at his leader. As I applied a little rudder to get his left engine into my sight I was subjected to the equivalent of an **** rape with a marrow.

No need to feel bad, I think there is a support group out there somewhere. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I've ahd the misfortune of being shot down by a Ju-87 in an offline campaign http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Lined up the element leader and closed in slowly from slightly left and below when all of a sudden my Lagg-3 erupts in a sea of tracers. Rips up my engine and i have to break, dive and then eject when my engine ignites.

Saved and played back the track and it turns out the AI isn't as stupid as id like sometimes. After dropping under some of the Stukas the rear pair then dove onto me and promptly shot me to piece.

Bad bit of flying all round. Concentrated on the 'glory' target, lost situational awareness and then got shot down by a bomber that i should of made highspeed passes at, not tried creeping up on from a low 7 position.

But ive done worse im sure.
