I can take a shower in between campaign mission loadings, and in missions sometimes itll freeze for a year too.
its really hindering my enjoyment of my favorite game.
besides getting more RAM(which i cant right now) what should i do?
(Oh yeah and i really dont want to lower performance settings)

You could try defragging your hard drive. If that hasn't been done in a while, it could decrease the time it takes for the hdd to transfer files to the RAM.

You say you can't add more ram, but just so we may rule it out as the obvious problem, how much ram do you have?

So, you cant upgrade your PC right now and you wont lower settings! You want us to give you a magic wand to wave over your pc and make it work better?

You cant expect to play this game reasonably with 256 ram and an MX card.

Sry!

Playing with an MX card is completely feasible, although I wouldn't expect to see perfect mode anytime soon if I were you...

The memory, however, can pose a problem. I'd recommend at least another 256MB. If it's not possible now, upgrade when you've saved up the money or when prices drop to reasonable levels.

Meanwhile, here's a few things to try:
- Defrag your hard drive. If the game is not installed on the system drive, defrag both the system drive and the drive FB is installed on.
- Close all unnecessary applications. While you're at it, try to use always-on applications (such as AntiVirus software) that take up as little memory as possible.
- What OS are you using? Windows XP is probably not a good idea, since it takes up a helluva lot of RAM all on it's own. If you are using XP, you might consider switching to Win2K, or (shudder http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/crazy.gif) Win98, to save RAM.
- Play around with your swap file. For example, making it constant-size (rather than dynamic) can speed up reading it.

Man that's great specs ! I envy you...
I'm running on a KIM 1 :
http://www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?st=1&c=149

hehe Anyway - allways close all programs in the background (left of the windows clock), Keep your hard-drive de-fragmented, Remove all spyware, determine size of cache/pagefile yourself (I got 3Gig assigned).

To realy run the game you need at least 1Gig of RAM and a better GFX card - try asking for old cards at your computer shop http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif you might get one for a good price and it'll be probably far better than the MX http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

If your hard drive stays at 1% for a year while defragging thats all the more reason to defrag it! In fact it sound like your computer is in such a foul state that a reinstall of the OS might be due. How full is your hard drive? You really want to keep 25% free at all times.

After defrag fresh install of game helps. A lot. At least for me it works better I try defrag it helps, but not like fresh install(of course save Missions and Users folder first http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif)

Specs:
Intel 997Mhz http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Post your DXDIAG in the community help forum. You may be able to update drivers and get an increase in performance. Also have you used spybot or adaware to get rid of spyware.

I find Viagra helps..... feed it into the floppy drive http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I would try running the likes of cacheman, I run Adaware and windows washer as that cleans all the junk off from the cache and temp files, but my PC is ok, so Its just a suggestion

cool, istretiteli, just noticed that you're a Kino fan. Loved that band (and DDT, Nol' etc) when I lived in Russia. Reminded me of some very happy/drunken (not to say that they're connected mind!) times.

Since we're talking about performance...

If I throw in a new HD, is it worth keeping my 15Gig as a second just for IL2. It wouldn't get filled up with any junk and could stay defragged. I read somewhere that can really help speed thngs up.

If this is the case, do I need to install my flightstck onthe second HD? I don't know much about these things.

Hi Istreliteli

What kind of memory does your mobo use? I've two old sticks of 128 meg 133sdram sitting here doing nothing. I'd be happy to donate them to a good cause.

Private message me if they're any use to ya
