I noted with great interest that a new official add-on for IL-2FB (namely the "Aces Expansion Pack") is indevelopment. Great news! IL-2FB is hands down the best WWII flight sim produced anywere to date, so an expansion pack for this terrific sim is indeed welcome. However, I have one question/concern, and would like to gather opinions on it.

My concern is this:

Why oh why have there been no official expansion packs for IL-2 that diversify the types of aircraft available to the Germans? I know the Stuka and the HE-111 were added, but unless where are the BF-110's, 410's, JU-88's and sundry other aircraft? I would sure like to know if there are any others who would see these planes made flyable in the upcoming Aces expansion. In my opinion, such an addon would greatly enhance the flying experience of those pilots among us who like to fly the German aircraft?

You know what was the biggest shock for me when I first started flying IL2 Online?

Was just how many people loved flying the Axis aircraft! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif And then there was the plethora of Axis planes to choose from. The sim could easily have been called `109 Messerschmitt!`

Hang in there Andolf, you will get a flyable Bf110G in the AEP, I think, and several Ju88 varients in due course in a subsequent add-on.

Yes these have been among the more obvious ommissions but there are some cracking Luftwaffe aircraft in the game. The Heinkel is excellent. Compare and contrast to the lack of Russian medium bombers.

Cheers, SSS

Thanks for the reply SeaFireLIV.

I agree with you. The coverage of the 109 is extensive in IL-2 -- which is not a bad thing to be sure -- but from the perspectives of both historical combat realism the complete absence of twin engine Luftwaffe fighters is somewhat of a negative for the sim. I would like to see really "NEW" flyable aircraft -- not just variation on theme.

The sim unfortunately lacks medium bombers of all nationalities...it was designed around the actual IL2 fighter bomber and progression to the flyable medium bombers has been slow.

With numerous people requesting medium types the sim is now definately starting to head that way. I think for whatever it's worth the designers may have felt there was no great demand for flyable bombers, but it has since been shown the demand is there and people are very excited about their inclusion.

I'd say to expect at least one more add-on after AEP and my money is on at least two:

Pacific (already in de facto progress by 3rd party modellers working on a variety of planes)

Bombers (Nothing that I've heard of formally ofcourse, but it's a good bet they'll release an expansion specifically for the medium and heavy bombers)

Speculation on my part, but it makes me optimistic http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

You know what got me the most frustrated, was getting the cd in the drive for the first time and watching the install, seeing the 110 and the 88 and one of the float planes, I thought wow they are gonna be cool, only to find out they are not in the flyable game.

Andolf,

We have the following Luftwaffe fighter & bomber near completion (AI only for now)

He 100D-1
Do 17Z-2
Do 217E-2
Do 217E-4
Do 217K-1
Do 217K-2
Do 217M-1
He 177A-5

Most with accurate historically available loads and Rustsatze for the ones that it applies to.

As I said, all of those are planned AI only for now, unless I get qualified & reliable modeller(s) to vonlonteer for the cockpits and gun positions.

BF 110C & Bf 110C-4/B should come in a patch to follow the release of the Ace pack from my understanding. Bf 110E-1/U4 (fingter-bomber) looks like could be very easily done. (Bf 110G-2 in several configuration is apparantly coming in the add-on)

There was some discussions on making a cockpit for the Me 210C, but it's still no planned for the time being.

Flyable Me 410 is being worked on in several variants ie. A & B. The modeller is waiting for some more references at the moment....locked up in a museum in Britain....

He 219 was started, but not much updates since then. Do 335 was started by Gibbage, was put on hold for the Spitfires and the Pacific project. No ETA.

Fw 187 was abandonned. Ta 154 was started, no updates.

Flyable Ju 88 in several variant is coming soon, along with a Ju 88C-6a. No G planned, although I would not be surprised to see a S-1 at some point.

The 109, 190, 262, stuka (and all variants of each) easily represent the vast majority of the Luftwaffe planes used. The only real omission, IMO, is the ju88 which is on the way. The Allies, by virtue of the many different countries and manufacturers, had many more different planes in RL. So it stands to reason they have more in the game. Just don't mistake variety for effectiveness as the Axis planes can be quite potent.

I want to make one more plea on behalf of making the Pacific theater (currently under developement) and add-on also. Having it as a stand-alone product does NOT make sense to me.

would you prefer to just fly the russian planes against eachother? There were 5 different 109s flyable in the original, how many versions of the Yak were there? Should they have quit after they modeled the 109 F2?

There is no flyable twin engine fighter in this game right now periode.

On the Ace Expansion we wil get the Me110 and 2 P-38's.
Both will be the only flyable twin engine fighters after that until new ones are added.

You don`t actually understand what i`m trying to say, but it would take too much time to try and explain and you`d probably still get the wrong end of the stick. Basically, if you don`t understand now, you never will.

But remember IL2 Sturmovik was originally just gonna feature the IL2 only!

Sorry for the unbearable style of my previous post. After polishing it a bit, here it is again:

Ugh! What? Yuck! O please, honorable gentlemen, can I request from your kindness to generously announce if there is any new offline historical map or feature included in the expansion, or should we resign with grief to the overwhelming reality of a simulation imprisoned in the same old well-known iron-made fetters and chains.

Eh?
