This Sunday, at the Canada Aviation Museum there will be a fly past of a Lanc and Mitchell among other WW2 era planes (with possibly Michael Potter's Spit - it is waiting on a propeller from England).
This is part of the annual BoB ceremony at the museum. Each year they gather as many WW2 pilots as possible to honour them with a fly past, parade, etc.

I am fortunate to manage a nice hotel in Ottawa and each year for this event I offer up free accomodation to any of the visiting vets and their families so that no one misses out for the sole reason they cannot afford to stay in Ottawa.

I was very honoured to hear today that one of the guests staying with us will be Cy Yarnell, a well known pilot who flew a couple tours.
He arrives Friday and I guarantee you he'll be treated better than any rock star who ever stayed at the hotel.

http://www.airforce.forces.gc.ca/hist/histarticles4_e.asp for a quick bio.

The fly past is apparently around 10:30. Last year there must have been 50 to 75 WW2 RCAF vets...several from the BoB. I was talking to someone with the airforce about the event - he must be one of us - all he kept talking about was how incredible the merlins on the Lanc sound.

Wonderful opportunity for anyone in the area to see a Lanc fly past and even better, meet some great men!

Will post pictures next week.

I was driving to work the other week and the Lanc flew right over my head. I guess it was a shakedown flight for the CNE Airshow. I can't wait until they finish work on the one they have out at Downsview.

jensenpark: It's been a while since I've been out to Ottawa. I seem to remember that they had a Lanc at the air museum out there (Rockcliff?) I was wondering if they have a Halifax as well? My uncle flew in Lanc's and Halifax's during the war and I'd make a special trip out that way if what I believe is true.

No Halifax though...I thought there was one in Hamilton though at the museum there...?

Any landing you can walk away from is a good one!
