My broadband connection will be switched on any day now and I'm looking forward to returning to being shot down on line as opposed to being shot down in QMB, ( wont have 56k connection as an excuse now) naturally I did a search to download hyperlobby and came up with that old web page from 2002 knocking hyperlobby, I read all that stuff the last time it was discussed here and the guy obviously has an axe to grind.
However, has anyone ever had any security problems or bad experiences attributable to hyperlobby? Does anyone know of any risks associated with using it?
Grateful for any input.

No security issues specific to HyperLobby that you wouldn't get from UBI.com, Gamespy, or any other lobby service. Its probably more risky to view webpages than it is to log into HyperLobby.

Get Zone Alarm (http://www.uant.net/firewall/zonealarmguide.html) if you are worried. It is a great firewall that I use all the time and I have no problems getting to HL.

Use Zone Alarm anyway. You can assume that any PC without a firewall on a broadband connection has already been taken over. If you aren't sure if a program needs access to the internet look it up in Google before letting it loose - one-time permissions are also good.

Besides the ethical implications of owning a computer being used to send spam and infect other PCs, all that extra **** running in the background will absoultely kill your FPS.

I wouldn't surf the net without a firewall, much less be connected 24/7 by broadband. My firewall alerts me several times a day of a hacker trying in put trojan horses or other programs meant to infiltrate computers. I know allot of people using Zone Alarm and it has had some excellent reviews in allot of computer magazines, and for free, you can't beat it. A good firewall should negate any worries about security problems associated with any web site. As far as HL goes, I've never experienced any problems, or I should say, my firewall hasn't picked up on anything while connected. So ignore the warnings about HL. It is safe. If it wasn't a allot more than one person would be issuing warnings about it. S!

Appreciate the comments..... used ZoneAlarm for years and I'm aquainted with internet security precautions, zonealarm would not show any alerts with a program such as Hyperlobby because it would have to be given server rights.
I digress, despite leadspitter thinking this is a troll, I was really hoping to hear from someone who could comment on hyperlobby in particular....

I have been using Hyperlobby for over 2 years and never had any problems with it. It is a very well designed and secure service.

ok i hope i'll do because i have been using hyperlobby for somewhere in the region of 3 years i helped beta test it before JCN shut down as hyperlobby was to be the replacement for it i have run it on win 98 win ME and now XP Pro without any problems at all to say that the guy ia nut to me is a bit of an understatment but i won't go into depth on this guy as he's not worth the time it would take to write about him so i'll leave it that
so to sum it up all i have to say you don't have any worries about hyper lobby
