Probably to early to ask this but is the Kawanishi H8K Emily to be a flyable plane? Whatever the answer it looks great.

I can't wait to take part in the battle of midway!.

The screenshot that caught my eye was the large scale shot of the Midway island map with Kure atoll. Man, those are two SPECKS in all that ocean. We will have a new challenge we never had in FB -- navigating to our target. Imagine you're flying in the Midway island strike team, not knowing where Nagumo's carriers are : where do you start to look, with no landmarks for reference ?

This the update picture of Midway
and this is a satelite picture of the same island today
not bad for a game, I say good job!

Nice post Haddock...

Really see a good comparison between the sim map and the satelite photo..it looks real close.

will we see the coral reefs, sand, rocks, like in the recent cfs2 pattex add on which was really excellent.

Sorry to seem like a sharpshooter, but the depiction of Sand Is (the western of the two islands at Midway Atoll) is way off. A better idea can be found at http://www.cr.nps.gov/nr/twhp/wwwlps/lessons/90midway/90getting.htm

This picture was taken by John Ford (a famous film director) from atop the Concrete Sand Island Power House, looking to the west. Visible in the near ground is the damaged laundry facility, water towers, contractorâ's camp, burning oil tanks on the south side of the island, and two story Marine Barracks in the far distance. A fully functioning Seaplane Base with very large hangar and concrete pads was behind the photographer (not visible in this photo. The seaplane hangar burned during the attack.

Part 2 of 2.
There were cold storage and other warehouses, a hospital, officer and enlisted quarters, radar station, HQ building, a bowling alley, Pan Am Hotel, Cable Station, and ammo bunkers on the island. The lower lip on the right side of the island, mistakenly portrayed in the Progress Map, was not here in 1942. It was bulldozed from the dunes of the island in order to extend the length of the runway constructed in 1943. I have viewed USMC maps at the National Naval History Museum (Naval Yard, DC) as well as NARA blueprints and October 1941 aerial photos of the island (I used to be a photo interpreter). While the general depiction of Eastern Island is correct, Sand Island is wayyy off! Itâ's missing the well-developed naval base on the east end of Sand Island. In consolation, the whole western part of Sand was pretty undeveloped, as depicted, in 1942.

'Nuther good shot, Sand Island in the back.

for maximum accuracy some small tweaks to sand island harbor area from 1941 photo in this thread

thinner beaches the beaches of midway were pretty narrow with vegitation pretty clsoe to the water

most important is adding that absolutely beautiful blue green shallow water where appropriate all over the inside of the atoll

if you've ever seen similar atolls in real life you know you will never forget that beautiful shallow blue green water. its etched in your memory more than any other feature

Yeah i agrea that it is very important to have a bright tropical feel. The water should be a bright clear blue within the reef.

Understatement of the year, LOL. Thanks for the satellite photo Haddock55, it really points out the lengths this developer goes to to make it "as real as it gets".

Battle of Midway without Devastators...

At least they're not among the development info released until now.

I wonder how they will workaround this. Unless they plan a 'winning-from-the-very-beginning' battle scenario... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/51.gif

i cant believe that such inteligent and history conscious developers will release this very important sim without a devastator and kate to start of with, jill and judy can come later as it was in reality.

the pacific ocean was blue and not green, and coral reefs look like turquoise jewels gleaming in the sun and sand is sand .further colours are very bright in these atolls.we are not in the north sea.

What's the size of that map fully zoomed out? Width x height?
