Is it just me, or does this thing fall out of the sky at the drop of a hat?

The description of the plane in IL-2 describes the earliest few as having problems recovering from stalls, but then goes on to say that later models largely eliminated this through a series of minor improvements to the airframe.

I sure as heck can't tell they're there http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It's harder to recover than a P-39 (based on my admittedly limited experience), and the onset of stall seems the most sudden of any of the aircraft I've flown thus far in the game. There seems to be almost no margin of buffet prior to stall. . .all of a sudden you're at 10kph in a flat spin wondering how it happened.

I went back to regular IL-2 (got tired of getting shot down by JU-87,88 and HE-111 snipers), and am playing the Russian fighter campaign. You don't get the Mig-3 until around the 5th or 6th mission, prior to that, you fly the LaGG-3. Thus far, every single one of my aircraft losses has been in the Mig.

Oh God how I want to complete my missions in this plane so I can move on to a different aircraft. Ok, I feel better now.

The wingload and T/W of the MiG-3 classic and MiG-3UD is very similar to the FW-190, so it figures that it would have similar stall performance.

The "later models" probably indicates the MiG-3UD, which was mostly identical save for the engine being moved forward to improve pitch stability.

The MiG-3 classic sucks the big one, but I'd take the UD against a 109F any day.

Then on the second day, it was made bug free, and He saw that it was good.

In FB, you can pick the planes you want to fly in campaigns. If you hate the Mig that much. Why are you picking it?

btw.. I think the Migs fly nice.

I always enjoyed my time in the BiC lighter, I mean the MiG fighter. A few strengths with some decided weaknesses.

No one that I ever shot down while flying a MiG accused me of flying a n00b plane! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

In my opinion, the word "understand" your a/c are very important. Know you strenght and weaknecess of your a/c can safe yu life or to make you an good pilot. Example:-

1. Know your a/c = 40%
2. Your skills = 40%
3. Luck = 20%

I read it. Did you? He tried FB, and didn't like the Mig. He went back to IL2, and started a Russian campaign, but is worried when the Mig showed up again.

I suggested he go back to FB, and start a campaign without the Mig.

So? What didn't I read?

Right about that, but it's VERY frustrating not to able to disengage becourse you've selected a poor climber/diver/speeder and are out of ammo /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

I like the Mig-3U, its 2 20mm cannons are fierce with sh*tloads of ammo. Its pretty fast and handles okay, jsut dont let anybody get on your arse.

Yes, Yes, and Yes, the Mig-3U is a kick *** plane, you dont see alot of people flying it, only people who have been playing IL-2/FB for a long time like me, it kicks ***, its superfast at low altitudes, so if someone is on your arse, all you have to do is dive and get away as quick at you can, and the 20mm guns kick arse too, I once shot a BF-109 F4, with out knowing it, I couldnt see him because he was just below my cockpit , and I just blasted, and I saw in the corner, blah blah blah, got hes wing shot off from me. If you want to fly a plane thats for pro's, fly the flying fire box, and rip people up.

Granted, real MiG at low level was not very fast, and Oleg's fb109E is, like I~16, ~waay~ overmodelled in low altitude climb rate, climbs with 109K in fact. You can't get away. The Patch may fix this.

Quote below lifted from from Alex Pokryshkin...

---> http://www.kithobbyist.com/VVS/ModelArticles/Massimo/pokryshkin.html

The fighter MiG-3...has demanded of the pilot many new skills and additional efforts in training. I liked this machine at once. It could be compared to a hot race horse: under a skilful rider it rushed along like an arrow, but when you lost control you could end up beneath its hoofs. In any design there will be always a weak point. Excellent fighting qualities of MiG-3 were hidden behind its defects. Advantages of this machine became accessible only to those pilots who were able to find them and use them correctly.

I think the early model Mig-3 are complete crap that really only excels at burning. The later ones burn just as well, but in addition they're wonderful fighters (as long as you're not hit.) The stalls/spins you mention are probably from trying to turn fight in it. That's a bad thing. While it doesn't blead energy as badly as some other planes, it accelerates very poorly, so if you allow yourself to lose energy in a turn fight, you'll soon be on fire. Instead fly it more or less like a 190, keeping energy high all the time, and make use of its really good roll rate.

The MiG's can be both challenging and very rewarding. They will never be Uber (at least not while I'm flying them /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif ), but they do quite well in skilled hands.

oh boy! I love those migs , only when I chase them! Man! Even Emil is able to lit that engine. Does not turn too good either so I'm not afraid of AI preffered tactic. I don't understand why they don't go above 3000 m. As far as I understood they were high altitude interceptors. But even so , my Jug will ate them alive!!! Even if I start shooting at .4-.5 a bullet will hit that engine. Next thing you see is an airshow plane with smoke turned on! Happily , I move along , coz I'm sure the thing will explode in the air. Hehehehehe , bring some more migs! Well , not that Fulcrum though! I plan to made it my fav in Lomac.

Some dude who wrote earlier (whose name I can no longer recall) wrote:

with which I totally agree- it does have good supply of ammo (seems nearly endless to me as I usually fly Yak 9k). And, of course, so long as you don't get hit you're OK...
Also- it was designed as a high alt fighter and really shines at 3000m and up, but still performs well down low.

Cheers,

The mig has a great speed(MiG-3ud), a great roll rate and VERY good high speed maneuvering, fires fast and turn acceptably. The MiG-3U is a beauty /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif . It's kinda the 109, don't allow hits in the plane /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Buzz, I really didn't mean to intend to get all riled up. You'll note in my first reply to you, I even specifically included the 'no offense but'. . . But when I get worthless observations like this:

- Like I said n00b.Why would you like this fine B&Z

from message board elitists who don't know anything about me, and make themselves feel big by bagging on relative newcomers to the board, it gets my goat. It's destructive to an otherwise friendly community. I know it wasn't you who made that comment, and you didn't deserve that 2nd snippy reply from me.

Yashmak, pay no attention to Carguy. He was no doubt an abused child. What Buzz was suggesting is that you can start a Russian campaign at the beginning of the war, and by using the pull-down aircraft selection menus for each portion of the campaign, pick all the aircraft you'll fly 'till the end of the war. It's not an obvious feature, and using it will keep you from ever seeing the inside of a MiG-3 cockpit.
Carguy, get a life (outside of simming, that is.) If you can't help the new guys, shut up. If you have to prop up your frail ego slamming new guys, get help. Your comments aren't helping, and you're a large part of the reason these forums have such a reputation for being hostile.
As to your achievements in the world of on-line simming, I'm sure your parents are very proud of you.
