The thought occurs that riding London Underground in ACS might be fun as the first section was completed in 1863.

It seems likely that the playable London map includes (part or all of) the underground section from Paddington to Farringdon, surely?

If there is a First Civ temple anywhere, it's going to be down in the Underground somewhere I'm pretty sure.

"They dug too deep!"

I can already see this happening. They go too deep and find a mysterious wall that can't be broken with any available tools. But we somehow manage to open it. Very Revelations style on the Library door.

We can but hope, but don't hold your breath! Unless the dev misunderstood the question, Syndicate will not have any tomb/crypt-type areas at all. This is kind of astonishing considering the original Knights Templar buildings and churches are right there inside the Syndicate map area and, as you point out, the excavation for the Underground famously unearthed ancient archaeology and mass burial sites.
