Near Leningrad my squad and I jumped a row of He111s preparing to take off. It was an excellent surprise attack. We in our LA5s smashed the first bomber while finishing off the rest. Some 109 fighters had just taken off and we got into a furball- Excellent battle friendly and enemy fighters zooming about each other with burning bombers below. I shot 2 fighters down.

When i looked around I had become completely separated from my wing and was now over Leningrad proper. Beautiful city. I saw a lone bomber heading out to sea and decided to give chase and add to my growing score. Tally ho! (in Russian! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif)

I got closer and closer to the bomber- then I saw four higher dots ahead of it. The four dots broke up into pairs. Uh oh... I made a sharp turn and raced back towards the city, calling Tower for reenforcements.

"Sorry, there are no planes available".

Marvellous. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

So I had a difficult fight with 4 twin-engined zersorers. I shot one down, but I was hit- the engine died. Where in such a dense city to land? The river. I dived to make a fast crashlanding. The 110 was faster, he shot my wing off. Bailed- just lived.

An incredibly enjoyable offline mission! Offline can be MORE enjoyable than online sometimes. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

A LPT of times... I know some people dont thionk so but to me the AI in this sim is great. When you get into the FMB or the UQMG and you set your AI accordingly. I like to mix them up... maybe a ace with a veteran wing and a vet with a rookie wing... I never make the flight or element leader a rookie...only wing men or I may make one or two aces in a squad mixed in with rookies, veterans and average. It makes for a challenge and after a while you forget whos who.... I even managed to get jumped by the AI on a mission I MADE because I hadnt flown it in so long. Offline is alot of fun in this sim.

Yes. A lot of people are too critical of the AI and really need to give offline a good flight . Preferably several missions in Campaign. It really does get enjoyable (and IMMERSIVE). If there`s a way I`ll even put up my tracks to prove to the negative sayers.

I have noticed too (Extreme-One mentioned it a while back), but the AI has changed a little, some fighters will stay high while one or two will go low and attack. It`s a little strange... it looks like some kind of new tactic- new B&Z routine?

Anyway, a lot of flyers are too critical of AI. I think they fly a couple of QMB`s then pan it. It has it`s faults, but it`s still very good. I know because I play the online Campaign A LOT (on my third and longest now).

I am thinking of posting a `How to fly offline with AI ` thread soon. To help explain this to others. But I want to see how the AEP expansion AI works out first.

I reckon AI has improved gradually with each pack.
I'm really looking forward to the "revamped AI" we're getting with the Aces expansion!

BTW I only fly offline so the AI is really important to me.

Extreme One,

Have you been able to enjoy the Leningrad and Berlin Missions in the UQMG upgrade? There are 52 new missions I carefully built and tested... Do those missions give a good idea of the potential?

Also, note that now you have full briefings you can write... and off course you could well enjoy those missions online...

I understand the offline dilema all too well. I have a bad connection and most of my time is offline... that is why I developed UQMG.

Lemme know.

I'm working until 18:30 (UK time) so I've got a long day of waiting.

I'm literally wetting myself in anticipation... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Looking forward to those missions too! I am also an almost entirely exclusive offliner and I absolutely concur with Extreme One, SeaFireLIV and Bearcat99's comments about offline play and the effectiveness of the AI. Even the less developed AI in IL-2 gave me plenty of satisfaction - so much so that I played offline almost daily and never lost interest or satisfaction from the introduction of that game until FB. But now it is far better.

The truth is that this game has such depth that I regard myself as having only scratched the surface. I still haven't fully explored the plane set that came with IL-2 - let alone FB and the AEP is going another whole level. I spend months flying and exploring the quirks of a single aircraft - and find that extremely satisfying. The variations that the cumulative patches introduce only add to the fun! No other sim - no other game at all - has ever captivated me the way this one has.

There's a mission in my russian campaign, the very first one (22nd June 1941). 4 I-16s against 11 BF-109s and a staffel of Ju-88s coming to bomb your airfield. Impossible to survive this mission, the AI is just too damn good even if I shoot down 2 of them and the Airfield AA manage to shoot down another 2, you just get 0wn3d!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

In May 1942, Nazi submarines sank two Mexican tankers, and Mexico declared war against the Axis powers. Thus forming the 201st Mexican Fighter Squadron equipped with the P-47D and sent to fight in the Pacific

I've been making my own missions using various aircraft in various settings...its great fun to play in these scenarios. I find them sometimes more entertaining than online battles.

I love offline...The AI is not as poorly done as many say it is.

I play offline 99% percent of the time, and it can be quite challenging! Of couse there are a few things that could be improved, but the overall performance is impressive!

I agree, its a blast offline and try to live as long as possible. These days I play offline more than online. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
