...for me anyway

Still using original IL-2, waiting for the reaction to the FB patch. Now that i have seen some feedback, I still can't decide whether or not to shell out the 20 or so for FB, then download the patch.

Comparing to the original IL-2, and offline only for now, is patched FB superior?

And some specific questions...

1. Do aircraft climb more quickly? In the original, a marginally bomb-laden IL-2 never feels as though it wants to fly, never mind a Jabo A8.

2. UFO AI? Can the AI at ace level still perform -10G pushovers and 20G pull outs? I am encouraged to hear you can sneak up on AI planes.

3. If anyone has had the same system for original IL-2 and FB, do they run at the same fps or slower?

4. Is the campaign worth its salt? (I'm not sure if i can access online gaming although i'm trying, so this is important).

Thanks in advance for any answers /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

btw, anyone else still playing the original?

Patched campaign seems to work pretty good. I am just getting into it and its really easy, I hope the AI eventually adjusts and gets a little better because right now the enemy ai is so bad, I cant get a kill before my wingmen knock them all down.

I thought of installing IL2 again. At least it has good sounds.

I`ll return when the Me110 will get here though./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

If it's the money that is keeping you from buying the game I'm going to have to call you a cheap a$$ idiot.

FB was superior over IL2 from day one IMO.Many complaints but a better game for sure.

Ignore him...it's obvious who the idiot is...... Shell out the $$ for FB you wont be sorry. I still have IL2 on my HD. I havent flown it since June but it is still on there. IL2 is a classic that reasied flight sims to a new level as yet unsurpassed in the genre. FB takes it a step further. There are some minor issues but even out of the box it is more than worth it. You may do IL2 for old times sake...but once you get FB you WILL love it if you are worth your joystick.

S-monkey.

Get FB. The first patch still has problems, but they're gonna be worked out. No worries on that account. Oleg has an excellent track record for support.

Two, the flight model as it stands now is very similar to the last version of IL-2. In fact, that was completely necessary for me to believe this, for me to have any futher interest in FB. FB 1.0's energy bleed was SO SCREWED, I stopped flying entirely until the patch came out.

Yes, FB has a couple of FM "oddities" like the suddenly worldbeating P39s...but IL-2 had it's La5FN. *shrug* The flight model debate for a couple of planes will likely always be a subject of debate. Keeps things loose and fun around here.

Don't belabor your decision, unless you know of a better WWII sim with a better community.
