Ok, since i have decided to spplit my flight time with the 190A5 in half, after discovering the jug, i was wondering if anyone here would be willing to share some tips on gunnery with .50cals. Every now and then i get lucky and saw a wing of, but i'm just so used to the nice big 20mm cannon rounds, my .50cal aiming is,well, crap. So any hints? Thanks guys.

Funny you should post...look to the "Gunnery works as advertised" thread I started while you were typing!

Make sure you have good lead and don't fire till you reach your convergence range. Then imagine a box over the target and open fire in a short burst...keep firing in short bursts till you have your target nicely hit and then sustain the fire till he goes down.

First you should start at setting your convergence. Plus, the gun settup is not quite like the P-40 or P-51.

For example,

You know where you set up you gun convergence right?

Ok, now the MG convergence setting is for the inside guns, while the cannon is for the outer guns.

I set the Inside MGs to the same convergence as the outside MG guns. Well you dont realy have to have them exactly the same. Just depends on your tast. Im am use to the MGs now and like to fire all of the MG's at the same convergence.

What convergence is best? Well its realy up to you. Ill start to fire at about 300m, but sometimes i cannot fire at 300m if i dont have a shot. 100m is my limmit and then its time to Zoom back up before i ram the target lol. I have my convergence set to 200m for all MGs guns. If i can fire at 250m and keep firing untill i reach 150m then usualy the target is in bad shape when i brake off. Fore me 200m convergence is a good balance.

Yes, i usually keep my convergence at 200m also, for both. I guess i am just so used to the revi on the Fw's and the P47 sight is a whole lot different.

You aim with a battery of 6+ 50 cals? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif

Just point and shoot, something is bound to hit... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Some of us believe that there is a problem with the P-47's guns. They do not seem to possess the power of the P-51 or P-40's 6 .50 calibers, when they should be even more powerful.
Others will disagree- http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

A useful trick is to turn icons on, and fly a mission in QMB against several foes. Fly and shoot as you normally would. Record the track, and watch it. Everytime you open fire, make a note of the distance to the target. Add these distances up, and average them. This is the average distance that YOU are most likely to open fire.
If there is a such thing as a "magic" number for convergence, this is it. What Hartmann, Yeager, or Kozshedub used doesn't matter. This is YOUR individual convergence range, just like sighting in a rifle. Set your convergence to this range.
Good luck! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I think the P47's guns hit plenty hard. I have no idea if Oleg and Co. have assigned differing strength values for the .50s of the planes you listed. I tend to think the P47 simply has two more guns.

My take on this debate is that it is quite a bit easier to keep the pipper on target for the P39, P40 and P51. They are simply more agile than the jug. Also, in the case of the P39 and P40, the fights are typically a bit slower. You may think the P40 guns are twice as deadly as the jug's, if you've ever camped out on a G2 at 200kph and just cut his plane in two. Then you make a 600kph pass on a banking Zero and wonder wy the guns are so poor. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Jug pilots have many targets veer out of harm's way. It's just the nature of the P47.

The guns are great Oleg, please fix the roll rate and stall of the D27. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif
