1. In an IL plane, I only go at a speed of about 180 at an altitude of 500 meters. Even with the engine at 100%, I can't go any faster. Is there a way to gain speed easily?

2. Are there any websites that have guides to become better at this game?

It's correct if you're flying the TB3. Otherwise, make sure you have retracted your landing gear and flaps.

If that won't work either, change your name into Fast Andy.

Since you refering to "100%" that means you are talking about IL2 original version (FB goes to 110%)

For speed in the IL2 you should have cowl closed and WEP and gear and flaps raised. If you are carrying bombs and stuff, it will slow you down too.

I don't think the IL2 is very fast though. Those speeds may be about right.

If you're flying the original IL2 Sturmovik without patches, the IL2's are reluctant to accelerate, particularly fully loaded. You'll need to put your nose very slightly down into a very gentle dive once you have flaps and landing gear up and about 150m altitude. You'll accelerate very slowly at first until you're going 220km/h or better. Once your reach that speed, level out, and you can start a GENTLE climb once you're over 250km/h.

This is normal behaviour for aircraft. At low speeds you need a high angle of attack to generate enough lift to fly and this creates a LOT of drag. As speed increases in this low speed end of the aircraft performance, drag will actually reduce and acceleration improve until you reach roughly best climb speed. After that drag will begin to increase again.

At take off speed in the original game, the IL2 is generating so much drag that there's almost no power left to accelerate or climb. Hence the gentle dive to get past the drag hump.
