Well, its been nearly five years since my old AMD400mhz with ATI rage fury 32mb sit on my desk. Finally decided to get a new system to play FB after experienced slide show on current system. what I m planning to buy is as follow

CPU: Pentium 2.8C
Mainboard: Asus P4P800
Memory: Corsair Twinx 1024 pc3200 C2 Dual channel
or Geil GL3200V X 2
HD: 80gig
Video: Radeon9800pro(Elsa Falcox 128Pro)
Sound: Onboard Sound(AD1985)
Power: Enermax Power 350Watt
CD-rom: cheap but good one
Misc: something cheap

No AMD for this time. I know its good but want to try intel at this upgrade.
I will go back to AMD for next upgrade

What I really care is Memory cuz I have to order from oversea. I ve heard that P4P800 and Twinx 1024 3200C2(LL is too burden to me) are well matched. Since I m a kind of moron in PC stuff, I always rely on others opinion or review and so far, that couple has captured my attention. Furthermore, I m not able to get other good Ram in Korea due to limited brand. Is Geil or Twinmos memory(pc3200 2X512mb) any good with P4P800?. I would rather go with Geil if the performance is not that bad compared to Corsair memory since Its easy to get in Korea.

Regarding sound, I also heard that the AD1985 which is onboarded in P4P800 is quite good. thats the one of the reasons I picked up P4P800. I know Audigy card is the best but not affordable at this moment.

I picked up 350watt PSU since I won't get another power consumable unit other than above spec. A 120mm cooling fan for case might be added though.

Please let me know your opinion. Any tackle will be appreciated.
Thank you.

Regards
Hongseok

Greetings honseok Macon,Ga.(U.S.A.),
Your proposed mainboard and gpu are plenty strong for FB.
The brand of memory you mentioned is unfamiliar to me.Any pc3200ddr should be sufficient. As for on-board sound,I get along fine with mine(VIA 97 Shuttle AK32A).I get acceptable frame-rates with athlon xp2200,350 watt A-Open cabinet. So your system should really smoke.

The only part that's not true,is the part I made up.

Thank you all.
Looks like I need to spend another 100bucks for the audigy card.

Buzzardhead..you also have Radeon9800Pro? some guys said 350W isn't enough for the 9800pro.
Thanks in advance

To hongseok,
I updated my Dell 8200 with a Geforce 4 to a Radeon 9800 Pro and I have 400W and it runs great.
I also replaced my Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card with a Audigy 2 and gave my memory a boost up to 1G with two 256 rdram memory boards.
So far my machine is Purring like a Kitten and the graphics are stunning.
Good Luck with your update

I used to be an AMD fan since the AMD K6 200Mhz CPU! But I decided to go with Intel this time since I did not wished to be an AMD Guinea pig with the new 64 bit CPU and Intel gave me an extended upgrade road up to their early P5 cpu with my current mobo. I have a similar setup :

Asus P4C800-E DELUXE Mobo
Intel Pentium 4 2.4CGHz HT 800 MHz FSB CPU
Corsair 1GB(2 x 512MB) PC-3700 (TWINX1024-3700)
ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128Mb
Onboard Sound
Logitech's THX certified Z560 4.1 surround sound system
WinXP Pro SP1

My machine runs as a rocket, no problems whatsoever. You might ask why the fast ram, I intend to overclock this baby to 3Ghz as soon as I get the HSF to do the job.

Onboard sound, as far for gaming, is as good as the Audigy 1 or 2. For classical, Jazz and other music listening and you want the best then get the Audigy.

you should be able to get audigy 2 OEM version for about $65 at newegg. worth every penny for me.

that machine should run great - maybe look at 9700pro to cut cost - read at tomshardware.com for compare. i think i saw the difference was minimal compare to 9800pro.

also - post on il2 tech board - is good place for this question.
