View Full Version : Which plane in FB do YOU think has the best cockpit layout?

For me it has to be the P-39 Aircobra.
Every instrument is placed just where it should be.
Of course you might disagree...

So which do you think is best?

I like the 109 cockpits and the La5. What I hate about the P39 is that the tach is all the way at the bottom. It's a bit of a pain having to look down all the time.

Fw-190, second best is Ki-84. Worst is Bf-109E/F/G.

Fw 190, of course. It lives by its speed and guns, and both speed dial and ammo counter are always visible. Altimeter and compass are also near.

For me, Russian aircraft have inferior cockpits in regard of equipment and visibility. Yak cockpit is very deep and narrow, for instance. American cockpits are great, especially P-51 cockpit, very ergonomic, pinnacle of WWII technology. It was hot, with poor ventialtion though. The BEST cockpit has to be Fw 190 cockpit, only downside being the forward visibility when nose is raised. Bf 109 pit is simple, with rather poor visibility. Spit cockpit is a nightmare, as we soon shall see http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

i hate to admit this but the yak three has the best visibility and it hands down the best plane in FR. the only draw back is that i cant read russian, and i still havent found a compass yet.

for layout i think the Me-262 has the most logical layout

for view its the Mustang

for gunsite the Hurricane has an excellent gunsite & foward view for dogfighting

oh forgot

the nicest moddeled cockpit has to be the FW 190

any of them

look at the finish , whoever moddeled themshould pat them selves on the back

also the KI-84 has a high quality finish to its cockpit

the me262 both views are great, ki84, and p39 for gauge placement but has very poor right and left visability in both views so your constantly waggling your wings.

What i dont get is why can the yaks see the tail of thier plane but the mustang cant which had better rear visability, the yak pilots were seated so low in the plane. With the bubbled sides on the p51d canopy you can lean and see beyond the other side of the tail if you have ever sat in one.

for worst pit i have to say p47 d10 and 22 its far worse then the 190

graphically bad looking pits mig p40 p47s p51 and I dont know why the hurricane pit drops fps so much its not the mirror but something with the pit itself

All the LW AC have excellent cockpit layouts. The 109 series goes from excellent to outstanding depending on the year you fly. It's obvious that the designers of the pit layout were thinking of the pilot.

The compass is hidden by the base of the gunsight. I'm afraid you'll have to tolerate the speedbar if you want to know which way you're going in that bird.

For me, the P40's cockpit is easiest to deal with.

Definitely the TB-3 because it has a whole 'nother room you can get up and go walk into.

Plus, you can never go wrong with corrugated metal, it's the wave of the future.

LMAO!! What no complaints about the view?

I like the P-39 and the Pony pit. For looks and sheer beauty it's hard to pick though because they all are nice..... but IMO for functionality and field of view it's hard to beat the 39.

As far as functionality and being able to jump from one type to another, the German pits are best, all yellow guages for fuel, red for oil system, blue for oxegen and so on. Plus they generally use the same instrumentation, and primary flight instruments got the weird shaped bezel outlines so easy to find.

As for functionality of flight avionics, got to give it to the P-39 with that sweet artificial horizon indiactor. Easiest bird to yank and bank through the blind.

I think the P-40 has the best cockpit layout, plus it has an excellent view out of the front of the cockpit that makes deflection shots a lot easier than in other aircraft.
