Oleg,

I don't know how much time or extra resources you have to devote to making the B17 flyable for the expansion pack. But, if you could (or if you could make any other bombers available) that would be fantastic. I think many people would be interested in having the B17 flyable. It would certainly in my mind make this game the most incredible creation since flight simming began.

Hear hear, I believe bombers are just as important as fighters. Without bombers there wouldn't have been as much use for fighthers, besides fighters used in the ground-attack role.

Fighters did an awful lot in the war, but the bombers crippled the industry, which ended the war somewhat sooner. Imagine Germany or Japan not crippled, and Germany ultimately developing the A-bom because the russians weren't in time.

But I admit it's a lot more work than the cockpit of a fighter.

Having a flyable B-17 would be the ultimate for us WW2 bomber fans. Doubtful this can be included in the upcoming addon unless the release date is postponed. If not, perhaps this could be considered in Luthier's 3rd party addon? I appreciate that this would take a lot of work but bomber pilots would be in their glory /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Adding my show of solidarity here. A flyable B17 would be a wonderful addition to the game.

@ Ailantd: Maybe not the most accurate referrence, but I recommend you try to get the 1:48 scale B-17G model from Revell.
I bought it two days ago and I'm currently most busy with the cockpit/bombardier front section.

I've seen in several "behind the scenes" documentaries that many special effects guys tend to create a real model of the object they wanna do on the computer, so maybe this technique will help you get a better insight.

Also, I recommend that you take a close look at VonKlugermon's pictures about his flight in a B-17G in the general discussion forum here on the site, these are quite new pics and also show alot of the interior.

S! and keep your work on the 17 going!

Someone in Omega Squadron is making a Lancaster. It'll be flyable,I think. And yes, on paper the Liberator was better than the B-17,but many pilots found it harder to fly (among other things),and tended to be more fond of the Fortress....However,I like em both,be sure....

Probably wouldn't make the pay addon but the supplementary patch many of these things could.

The Pe-2 is stalled, but multiple Ju-88 models(including ones we currently don't have) are being made flyable, thanks to Jippo and Dietger....

visit this site,

http://jg777.com/il2

It has all of the updates on aircraft being made! Please! Visit there! If you want to ask about making an aircraft flyable or making an aircraft, go here!

http://www.netwings.org

click on Forums, and look for IL2 FB design and development. Click on that.

Look there for updates on development. Don't ask here. Ask the guys who do it!

S1 Boosher. Thanks for the links. I'm familiar with netwings, but the IL2 Database was news to me. Do you know how often the information there is updated? Obviously, the site is relatively new (october?), but it seems some of the info is already outdated (i.e. listed as WIP instead of complete).

Would make a great flyable addition, provided the FM changes, so they don't go around barrel rolling and making break turns more suitable for a fighter-bomber than a heavy.

We don't need them being used as "ack wagons".

All hail the almighty B-24 Liberator!!!

Please give it cockpit! want my grandfather to see it since he was B-24 tailgunner.

I join in your necromancy of the thread too. would be really sweet (though highly unlikely) with a cockpit for it.

This issue has been visited so many times, that many of the old timers around here look at a thread like this and say to themselves, "not again"! Fair enough, but the the B-17 was such a major part of the European war that not having it flyable is kinda like having a car without a steering wheel. Still, it is not as easy as saying, "yeah, add it"!

1) It is a four engine plane and that makes things 8 times more complicated in modelling the flight characteristics, so we'd have to give up 6-8 obscure add-on planes to get it right there.

2) Ball turretts are a bit complicated and multiple gun positions add complication as well.

3) Wide variety of bomb loadouts.

4) There are reportedly some issues with U.S. planes as it relates to copyright laws. It seems that the U.S. companies want to hold up Oleg for a bit of randsom that cannot be afforded to do this. Still, I think a letter writing campaign would end that in a hurry, but the mods and Oleg are kinda psychotic about even discussing the issue.

5) There had been some thoughts on lack of documentation on the plane, but that proved to be false.

The bottom line is I guess we should put it out of our minds, but it is a deep, deep hole in the game. Too bad we can't seem to work together and get it done.
