Article in Norwegian, sorry, but photo shows Ju88 sinking trough the ice in 1940 on the Jonsvatnet lake in Trondheim. The Luftwaffe operated from this frozen lake during the first weeks of the Norwegian campaign and several aircraft sank when ice tawed.

One Ju88 and one He111 are supposedly intact and in remarkable condition, both laying on their back at 70 meters below the surface. Some divers have reported other aircraft, possibly a total of 5, at other locations in the lake.

There is a problem concerning the local health authorities, due to the fact that this lake is the main drink water source for the city of Trondheim and they don't want to disturb potential pollutants.

Anyway it seem that they will give a permit to raise these two aircraft this summer.

I live in Trondheim and look very much forward to this http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Would be great if they can restore these, hopefully we can have another airworthy He111, and Ju88. Being that its not sal****er, the damage shouldnt be that extensive, but then again it has been over 60 years so who knows.

LOL...did you see how it censored your note?
Blanked out the "T" in "salt" and "WAT" in water. Put them together...who'd think salt water could be so rude...
