You have to have a licensed copy of the PolyBump technology from crytek.com, for either Maya or 3D Studio Max, export them into the proper format that the PolyBump technology uses. That should be fairly simple, I suppose. (This is an educated guess)

Yeah... I found that out after going through CryTek's website a bit. The thing is, their plugins are EXTREMELY outdated for both Maya and 3DSMax (the versions they support are Maya 4.0/4.5, and 3DSMax 4.x).

And they don t export models, just normal maps...

BTW polybump works flawlessly on MAX5.1... don t know about max6 though but there should be no problem.

So as of right now there is no way to import a custom static object to use in the game?

I have this very dark and foreboding sense of fear that they are going to try and charge for the Object tools or SDK or whatever.

No way, they cant cut the hand that feeds them, thats suicide. They will be free. (for non commercial use)

So far the plugin doesn't work for Studio Max 6.

*Sniff* I learned the hard way.....

I agree i dont think they are going to release plugins for import/exporting data.

This means we will only be able to use current materials/objects etc and not custom stuff.

That will kill sales of this game.

ROFL. Cant have much of a MOD (or a T.C.)without being able to bring in new content! Without it, you just end up with 100 different versions of the same thing. Same characters, weapons, monsters, THE WHOLE GAME. Only the terrain changes. Thats ridiculous.

*I GUARANTEE* there will be importers (I can see not exporting content but I still think it will be there too. (in the SDK).

I talked with one of the programmer at Crytek yesterday and he is saying at the end of april is when he thinks the SDK will be finished.

But I'm still waiting for some replys from Cevat about other things as well so I'll ask him, seems he and the other bothers are off till the 29th of this month :-(

Wasn't the community told that it would be out in 2 weeks at most? And that the SDK had been done, just getting passed onto the legal team?

Anyone have any way of importing terrain data from other games (RS or GR)?

I'm just getting started in this, and wondered if I'd have to hand-fashion all of the terrain if I wanted to bring in some maps from Ghost Recon...

AFAICT registering is almost always handled by the publisher, in this case UBI and NOT by Crytek, they really have better things to do.

AFAIK, Ubi are not Crytek's publisher, they are Farcry's publisher. Ubi has nothing to do with the licensing of the Crytek engine*

*I could be horribly wrong.
