Iv'e come to grips with it.... I suck at flying prop planes. every other sim ive ever simmed I can at least keep the plane in the air.

il2fb i crash more than get shot down. Sure, i mostly fly the 39 and now the 63, but i can spin any plane to a stall and crash. I'll try to give a good description, any advice will be helpful.

typical mission, me flying perfectly... nice, smooth, bf109s pass over or under and i want to swoop onto their tails.

I may try to go over, under, side.....

last night, the bf109s have about 200 meters on me in alt, but im booking at about 550....
I decide Iā'm going to do a climbing half loop and roll out, I cut a little throttle (no CEM) kick the flaps to combat, and pull back on the stick. stall, spin, crash.

then, i play the same mission, use the time nidge thingy to get to the same place... here come the 109s.... theyre about 200 above me, and about 200 from me, i invert, cut throttle to about 60% flaps to combat and tr an inverted half loop with a rollout. stall, spin crash....

am i being too rough? whenever i pull enough gā's to match other planes in turns, i wipe out.

any ideas?

it seem you're too rough when using the stick. What are your stick settings in FB?

check this topic also :

Flying the P39 is like making love to a beautiful woman.

You can't just grab hold of your stick and start thrusting it this way and that or you'll find yourself in a spin before you know it.

You need to caress her, let her feel you're in command. When you make your move you need to tug your stick gently. Get a feel for her as she starts to tremble and shake as you bring her round. Don't go straight for her flaps, you need to slow things down a little. Check your speed and then when she's feeling responsive you'll find that slow movements with your stick and teasing the flaps is going to bring a lot of satisfaction.

Hope that helps.

I don't know, Huxley--this technique (which I have perfected http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif) at least always gets a good laugh and can sometimes confuse your prey, throwing her off balance.

Yep first thoughts are stick settings are too high, for his style of flying. So what did you find? Did you make any improvments?

Sounds like you're a little quick on the flaps also. I would normally pull into a climb and towards the top of the loop deploy combat flaps (and even take off flaps after that if combat isn't enough.) as soon as the maneuver is complete, bring them back up to accelerate as quickly as possible.

My flap switch gets a good workout when I'm in a fight in any Cobra variant.

I would suggest getting a force feed back stick.

Most of my flights ended upside down in a flat spin. There just wasnt enough audio warning that I was about to stall.

A friend sugested that I switch to the FF sick. The slight diferences in its shaking really lets you hang right on the edge of stall without breaking.

Tapping the flaps at the apex of the turn is enough plus it saves energy.

How do you like your x800? I want one . Pick another plane Yak , la 109 . Why do you think the US leased most of the 39s to Russai http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif

the x800 rawks. it made a huge improvement in lomac and FB. HUGE improvement. I get TWICE the fps i did with a 9800XT.

---

Last night, I tried some different planes, it seems like no allied plane has quite the punch of the 39 / 63.

I did well in a yak (whichever one has 2x 12.7 and 1 shvak) with a kill and a half, did well with the la7 with two kills and I got a kill in the 63 with a long range cannon round.

I just need to slow before turning, and go light on the stickij... i'll peep that topic in a minute. thx

Too much throttle cutting and combat flaps. Use combat flaps sparingly in certain turn situations...not when you are manuvering in general combat. They loose you speed and throw off your aim...it took me weeks or even a month to learn to stop doing that.

ya now i had the same problem with il2 when it first came out,it was the most sesitive flight sim that i had ever played.but u will eventually get a fluid feel for the game and can allmost fell when its gonna snap roll and can ease back a smidge.plus having all the axis of control is a must. u gotta use the rudders in the game more than any other axis it seems.if u ever played ms combat sims for any period of time your gonna have to go back to square one and relearn every thing all over, that one game will allmost ruin u for good and teach u nothing other than how to turn fight and poorly at that.just keep playing.and what really helped me was get really radical with a flight controller set up,i now use a firestrom game pad use the left control stick for airelon and elevater axis ,right analog for rudder the buttons are nice and close for fire and a ch rudder peddle config for prop pitch and throttle.strange i know but i cant fly any other way now it feels so natural
