Man that game was AWESOME! I first played it when I was like 10 lol, that was way back in like 1994. I kept playing it till up to about 5 years ago. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif I loaded it up the other day, and man I tell you, the memories just started to flood back. Sure the graphics sucked, but the campaing actually kept TRACK of your destroyed targets, you could transfer squadrons, fly loads of aircraft, do anti-shipping, fighter sweeps, ground attack, bomber intercept, get medals, rank, play recorded missions back, meet famous aces over the front (I still get teary eyed when I remember my victory over Pips Priller in my trusty Spit http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif) all the way to the end of the war...then do it all over again! Best of all, you actually had a campaign for the Americans.

I mean, that game had more features than most other combat flight sims that came along years later, up until Il-2 that is. And even now, I still somehow felt more 'drawn in' to the experience of AOE, I felt more as if I was part of a squadron than I did in Il-2, especially when flying those scripted campaigns.

Anyone else play this great sim?

Oh yes, how could I forget Red Baron! I'm a little young for the first one, but I definitely played a lot of Red Baron II, still got the game in its original box right here by the computer in fact lol. Yeah, that was another great one. While Im thinking about, what about Falcon 4.0? Man that was another awesome game. The manual for Falcon was like an encyclopedia, I remember pouring over it, hard memorizing the controls for the different radar modes and how to arm the missles; I think I studied how to arm and fire an AGM-65D Maverick more than I did my 8th grade school work http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif.

I still got the entire Ace pack
from Ace of the pacific (with the 1946 add-on)
Ace over Europe
Red BAron

But Ace over europe was the bomb. Love the Arado Jet bomber in that game

Geez, I still remmber AOE. Today I dream of manuals like the one you got with AOE. I still have them today. I enjoyed Aces over the Pacific and its Addon 1946 where you could play a fictional invasion of the Japanese homeland. In AOP I first heard of a plane called P40 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif and I felt so inferior to that Zero. I still remember flying the P40 in my first mission of my US Army carrer when I scrambled at Pearl Harbor to intercept those nats Zeros over Pearl. Geez I got my *** clubbed http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Funny how I still remember it. I think todays sims dont get that immersion any more.

All the aces games were in their own way fantastic! It was one of the first games where it was truly fun to pound ground targets.
And I remember first flying over Paris and notice that they had modelled both the Eifel Tower and the arc of triumph, so I took my Typhoon down to zero altitude and flew between the leggs of the Eifel, beatiful!

I remember train busting with the typhoon and blasting B-17's with the 6xMG151/20 loadout in the 262 (that was a mod, I believe). Loved the RedBaron2 3D campaign. What do you think about the WW1 Mod/Addon project for Il2? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif
