Just triedd flying the IAR 80. She's stable, relatively fast for a 1940 plane too bad she's not armed very well (4-7.62mm).

My question is this....does the IAR81 model was actually designed and used as a fighter too? since in FB she's described as a light bomber. She (IAR 81) packs a punch but i noticed that she's not as manoeverable as the IAR80.

Thx. Does anybody here fly her aswell pls give some tips how to fly them in air-air combat and which one better the 80 or 81 for fighter role.
Btw I only play offline.....so tips for offline are more appropiate. many thx again

Just did QMB with IAR81 Vs Hurri. IAR81 feels very heavy to handle...like a bomber (Stuka, IL-2). So i guess she's not suitable for dogfighting. Too bad i really like the firepower.

Anyone here fly IAR series too?
Any comment? Please....
I know IAR is not a very popular series which people often fly.

Hi there Roh_Kudus, i fly the IAR`s, 80, and 81, indeed the IAR80 is not to well armed, the 81 is ok, it preaty agile too, i dont know if it was used as a bomber, its possible, i play just offline too, i fly the IAR's mostley cause they are the only romanian planes in IL2FB, from my point of view they are not to well protected, but they'r ok.
P.S. Excuse my english. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I like the IAR series , The worst thing about them are that there undered powered . They just dont feel like a fighter , more like a civi plane but from what I read about the plane is modeled correctly. It can stand its own in a turn fight agisnt most early planes but theres no chance of you running away unless your going aginst a bi plane lol

You can use the IAR 81's as fighters, theyre a bit slower due to the increased weight of the guns, and the bomb 'crutch' underneath it

but she packs a punch, plenty of ammo too, which is always handy.

very stable aircraft, suffers a bit by being underpowered and all the bells and whistles added as the war progressed, quite a nimble aircraft, but bleeds speed in sustained manouvres though. I quite like it, it can hold its own against almost all aircraft.

a couple of nights ago I took down about 6-7 spitfire mk IX's online for no loss to me (apart from a cannon shell or two)

its always handy to get a height advantage and keep your energy up cause you dont wanna be stuck at low level with no energy to make tight turns http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Yeah IAR81 is quite sluggish compared to IAR80. I just chased a LaGG-3 in offline campaign for about half an hour. I peppered him with bullets time after time and when I saw the replay there was no damage modelled whatsoever on the LaGG. It finally dove and crashed.....
Simply stated: the guns are ridiculous unless you hit the engine of course. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

But i still like it(Managed to collect 3 kills, 2I16s and 1 LaGG-3). Hehehe i like underdogs planes.

Btw: Tha AI can't steal kill anymore. Once I peppered an I-16 so many times and the AI popped in with gunz blazing bringing the I-16 down. But it was me who got the credit for destroying it in the debrefieng.

IAR supposed to have same engine as FW190 . SHortage,or whatsoever reasons ,cancelled the Jumo order. So ended IAR with a Gnome-Rhone engine, however over 1000Hp.By the time it entered service it had same characteristics as 109E as a German pilot said after testing the airplane : "Is an airplaned fitted for the modern days".81 version was used mostly as bomber interceptor since its characteristics were becoming unsatisfying for dogfights.Romanian fighter pilots mostly flew 109E's,109G's made in Germany or in Romania. However,IAR and the AAA defense were the heros of the Tidal Wave operations. For 40 years USAF thought that were FW's downing the Lightnings above Ploiesti.http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
You guessed, were the IARs.Pretty good for an airplane 4 years older,eh?
