I did a little test over a two-day period flying "On-line".
I flew the P-51D for two hours in one room and bagged only 700 points.
Next, I flew a 109G and bagged 1000 points in 45 min.
I flew a Ki-84C and had 1100 points in 20 min.

Off line I compared my skill between the P-51D and the 109G.

Flying the Pony first:
2 109's vs one Pony(me)
5 out of 5 runs I splashed both...
added a third 109.
Never got all three. Ran out of ammo or got plastered by the third guy.

Flying the 109G:
2 Ponys vs me
5 out of 5 runs I splashed both. Three of those runs bagged'em on the first pass.
Bumped it up to 4 Ponys vs me...
5 out of 5 runs I won.

So, I figure when I'm on line in a Mustang flying against anyone in a 109 with "at least" my skill level, I'm all ready out gunned more than 2 to 1. And you know what, at times it's frustrating, but I have more fun being the underdog. Getting the kill is much sweeter and gratifying.

And this can't mean that your style is better suited to the 109?

Now fly the P-47 or P-38J; scoring kills in them is very sweet.

The most kills i have had is 6 in one sortie, in the P-51.

P-47D27, 5 kills in one soritie. Then the P-38J, 4 kills in one sortie.

These are all human pilots.

I agree that it's the pilot and not the plane, to some degree anyway.

Rgr dat Maple,
That 700 points wasn't 7 kills and landings. I think the most kills I've ever had in a single sortie in the P-51 was 5, and I think I got waxed befor getting to base only scoreing 50 points. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/51.gif

In the Ki! Man I squirted 3 bad guys in a row on a single pass following a friendly and they each folded right in front of me. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/52.gif

BTW, Those off-line missions were flown without gun pods too. Just internal guns on the 109.

in the P51 its 109 killing fest nothing is easier , just one burst and the 109 is out of action

Yeah, let's see a track of that. I have to set up camp and put up a tent to get enough ammo in a 109 unless I get a good deflection shot into the engine.

Best I ever got was 10 kills in the P-47D-27, back in 1.11. No track though. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Vidar your BSS squad flys often in the 97th server when its up
i know your a die hard allieds pilot but i invite you to fly axis in a 109 and ill take my fly by wire stang and ill show you how easy it is to down a 109
and im surprised you do so well online in a 109 and Ki but you cannot down 3 AI 109s in a stang ? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

If you're talkin' about me suitin' up in a Ki. I RARELY do. This was just an experiment of mine. As a matter of fact I made a post in the game that I felt like a cheat flying it. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
It was way too easy.

Sunburst,
Well, maybe I was having a bad day with the 3 AI 109's... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif I'll try it again.

vidar i did a test offline my self
me in a P51D vs 4 AI ACE 109G-10 on 200m start with no advantage
and i must say those AI 109 are total BS!
they are the best AI in the game and got sniper mk108s and they make moves a SU27-flanker wouldnt think of

i did it on full real and got my *** handed
3 out of 6 times
but i never ran out of ammo tho , i even got some left

so its not the 109 itself but its the ACE AI 109 who is just harder as the rest
and i got the feeling when they hit they do maximum damage

Yeah, aren't they! I use AI tgts for working on reflexes and practicing deflection shots.
The AI knows exactly when you depress the triger too. They start yankin'-n-bankin' as if they had full knowlege of you pulling the hammer down.
As for me going "Winchester" in the AI contest, I don't get it. I'm not missing them... I can see the sparks off the plane very clearly. The deal is to get an engine shot on them. Once I lag in behind'em, forget it. I set up camp and put up a tent and blast away taking piece after piece off. This can't be the API ammo, but rather inert slugs. A short burst of that stuff was like a buzz saw to to anything in its way.

Different people for different planes. There's a reason why I do better in FW190's than I do in Bf 109's. There's a reason why the Spitfire I find easier to shoot with than in a 109 or why I prefer flying a Yak-9U over a La-7 when presented the chance.

I consider myself an average or slightly above average pilot with good gunnery skills and I know that certain aircraft do the trick for me while others I find difficult to do much of anything with. Sometimes its the opposition, the day, the mood...heck the phase of the moon even http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif but its quite obvious that this game has sufficiently varied aircraft so as to show the different styles of combat.

Interesting post...it is not the pilot, but rather the plane unless both planes are equal and they usually aren't except in those non-historic dogfight servers...

The evidence is all around us...we didn't finish the war in P-39's and Wildcats and we still don't fly P-47's but have moved on to A-10's...these are extreme examples but they clearly show that aircraft are very different in their developmental stages and produced very different success depending on a lot of things but pilot skill is not the biggest thing, but very important... I will say I strongly agree with the bit about a plane fitting ones style...I can't use a 109 worth a darn, but put me in a Fw and watch out...I learned that from flying P-47's http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/88.gif

There was a time when the Zero was dominant...then what happened? The zeke stayed the same and all the aircraft around them became much, much better...pilots too, but the success wouldn't have been as great if the US had chose to stay with the P-40 through its life cycle.

I also find that cockpit on servers favor planes with strong firepower and speed (Luftwaffe) while cockpit off servers require better knowledge of the flying characteristics of your plane as well as your enemy's... very few suprises too so you have to contend with high fliers B&Z and head ons more...don't get me wrong, you can B&Z in warclouds, but I find seeing the target much harder and pulling lead is a matter of speculation because your view is blocked so tactics tend to be dive under and shoot from below.

One thing is certain for any who fly online...it is pretty clear after flying with the same folks for awhile who the good ones are...Warclouds and UK Dedicated will teach a guy a thing or two about pilot skill but don't think you will dominate in a P-38 (unless 1943 opponents)! Fly smart and you can kill lots...even more than you are killed but I can tell you I can score better in a Jug, Mustang and (my new darling plane) spit mk 9 than I can in a Hurricane, Bf-109E or Fw190A-4 if I'm fighting in against 1943 or beyond aircraft.
