This new movie contains 8 parts and it`s not out yet. Movie based on the book by Valentin Pikul "Requiem for convoy PQ-17"
It`s a true story about lendlease convoy of 40 vessels that was destroyed by germans back in 1942. Only 11 made it to Murmansk, rest has fallen to fierced attack of LW and U-Boats.

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

The opening of one of the clips reminded me about the Jerry Bruckheimer "Pearl Harbor" movie. If anyone knows the film's english title, I'll watch out for this when it's on DVD. Netflix might carry it, if it doesn't get shown here in the States.

Is Ben Affleck in this one too.. ? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

They using anti-personnel smart bombs? Love the way only one guy at a time goes up in a flame, too Hollywoodish for me.

The clip shows a Russian ship being attacked. Were there any Russian ships in convoy PQ17?

Most of it seems fairly well done, except for the explosions from the bombs and torpedoes. A 500 kg bomb would produce an enormous explosion--but in this scene it looks like the Ju88s are dropping Molotov cocktails.

The PQ-17 convoy was the bait for the Tirpitz To come out. Besides the escort, there was a mighty ship force sailing north of it, waiting for the Tirpitz. But when actually the message that the Tirpitz has left its lair reached the Convoy, the escorts and the group turned back and ordered the merchants to split and head to Murmansk alone. It was summer and in those northern waters it meant no darkness at all...
Then the Luftwaffe And the Wolfpacks arrived...
The tragedy of the convoy was that Tirpitz never actually came out.

AFAIK, PQ-17 was composed of ships from quite a few countries.
