dear oleg,
we hear that you are now developing the pacific theatre sim.we only have cfs2 and the independant add ons for the last 3 years with all it's limitations and advantages.
we badly need good:
avengers with free movement on board and swivelling rear guns, same for the devastator and dauntless.
we also need amphibious ships and vehicles for all the beach scenarios.
finally, good quality carriers.

We also need a good selection of Japanese aircraft. Not just the zeroes.

Is well know that the FB engine can't handle carriers. Planes can't land on ships on this game.

Dauntless
Avenger
Helldiver

Carrier landings are really NOT a need for a PTO addon.

ISLAND hoping needs no carriers, also the Japanese didn't use any carrier after 43.

Carriers are a MUST have.. and what gato-loco said about not being able with the FB engine. Maybe you could take a a modeled carrier ship. Then instead of modeling a flight deck. Since plane would blow up when hitting it. Use the same type of parameters used on the ground. Make the flight deck essentially like landing on ground surface. Only paint the ground surface to look like a flight deck. Just brainstorming....

Oleg says that FB engine can handle Everything, include carrier landing, but they have no time to code it right know.

Looks like luthier is working on it.

Pacific or MID? We have no exact info about it.Look at this :

Cosair is taken by luthier,it means what?

Ok...aircraft in a PTO addon that'd be really nice to have:

- Wildcat (with 4 and 6 gun versions)
- Hellcat (definitive USN fighter from 1943 on)
- Corsair (a couple of versions would be nice)
- Dauntless (invaluable dive bomber)
- Avenger (tough and capable torpedo bomber)
- Devastator (if we want the turkey shoot)
- Helldiver (the not quite as sucessful replacement for the Dauntless)
- P-38
- P-47
- P-40
- B-25
- B-24 (a must have for the Pacific)

Also for the Japanese side:

- Zero
- Kate
- Val
- Oscar
- Nick
- Betty (for the Yamamoto/P-38 interception)
- George

So many to list http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif. Lots of good planes in the PTO http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Lots of others that I can't think of right now.

Since I usually mention this when the threads come up I may as well now.

There are a number of nice substitute skins to stick on existing FB models, to tide you over til Luthiers' Pacific addon.

Me-210 / Ki-45
MC-202 and BF109G2/Gunpods make a passable Ki-61
IAR80/81A / A6M2 & Ki-43
DB3-x and Il-4 / Betty
Su-2 / Val [also Dauntless]
Ar-196A-3 / Generic small floatplane
U2 / Generic biplane
P-47 / F4U
B-239 / F4F

None of these are quite as much of a stretch as some of the other substitutions you'll see, Yak fighters skinned as Spitfires being one example that just doesn't do anything for me.

The above listed work well enough for me anyhow. It's worth mentioning that for a good couple of years the exact identification even of various A6M models [one of their primary opponents!] was a mystery to the US forces, some three or four codenames being given to the same type. Even real pilots had a hard time telling the difference occasionally :>

Do a download filter search on http://www.il2skins.com/ for any skins with Japanese national markings, or browse the relevant plane section.

a brief history to priorities.
in 1942 the USNF new that their devastator was obsolete and the avenger was already on the drawing boards and the wildcat was just appearing.there was no hellcat or corsair, there was the buffalo.the dauntless was too slow and was programmed for retirement, to be eventually substituted by the helldiver.obviously the japanese new this situation in 1941.the army had the P40,and the B25 etc.the B17 was in developement and we know what the japanese had by 1942.
therefore since it would be impossible to include everything from 1942 to 1945 in one game and i'm sure you dont want it all in one go
it would be worth listing priorities from 1942 to let's say 1944 only to be followed later with an add on.

I don't know if this has been asked yet? It would be nice if there was an option for the A6M5 and A6M2 in loadouts for a non droping drop tank. Later in the war the Japanese pilots were ordered not to drop their drop tanks as there was a shortage of them. This would be a realistic feature. I am sure many of you have seen the gun camera footage of Japanese fighters being shot at and they had their drop tanks still attached.

Forgive me if this has been mentioned, but Japanese "Marus" (transport ships) and coastal barges (VERY important to them after 1943) would be nice.
A Japanese flying boat (Emily or Mavis, or even Rufe) would be nice, too.
All the stuff that has been mentione dup to now would be great, I'd like to see as much of it as possible make it into the sim.

Here's what I know to be currently "under development":

A-20 (C, G and K, hopefully, by Rafael, Caspar and Xanty)
B-25 (by maddox games)
B-24 (by Octubre, Manopat, et all, but haven't heard anything on this one in awhile)
Ki-43 (by Gibbage)
Ki-61 (by Saqson)
J2M3 (by Majesty 5, I think)
P-40B/C (by planeater)
F4F (possibly, by Gibbage)
F4U (by Snowpipe)

I have also heard talk of a D3A and SBD, but haven't seen anything recently.

Someone suggested Japanese landing barges. So we'll need some PT Boats to hunt them. Maybe Akella can contribute some torpedo boat loving back to Oleg's game.

The minisubs, their transports, submarines towing supply containers. An ambitious modeller might do the Prince of Wales, Renown and Langley for early-war scenarios. The first two would be handy for Atlantic or North Sea maps. We'll need supply dumps to strafe on New Guinea and in the Solomons. A map of Manilla Bay with The Rock would be incredible. And Black Cats with torpedoes !

Sneak bombing PT Boats in float planes. Flying an observation plane at the battle of Savo Island would be fascinating, especially if it can be scripted to play out historically. Code in catapult launches for extra fun. Washing Machine Charley runs over Henderson Field - include dropping sake bottles.

Oooh ! New Guinea. We must have the Owen Stanleys. If it was flyable, a C-47 campaign flying supplies through The Gap would be of great historical significance. It's not like cockpit references would be hard to find, open any dilapidated hangar :-)

Veteran - Bermuda Triangle Expeditionary Force. 1993-1951.

mllaneza,

So you know abot the gap in the Owen Stanleys -when coming into or going out of the strips in Port Moresby e.g. Jacksons etc.

Yes it would be great to accomodate the biscuit bombers and the likes in their C47s.

Imagine flying through the gap in the middle of the night with St Elmos fire going on around in the clouds/atmosphere now that would be awesome.

If they do put the PBY into the expansion pack - fingers crossed or when Gibbage releases it hope someone can do some skins for the RAAF Catalina squadrons like the 11 SQN.
Importantly marking number A24-2. The 11 Sqn has an amazing history to it.

See this book: "Catalina Squadrons - First and Furthest"
"Recounting the Operations of RAAF Catalinas"
"May 1941 to March 1943"
By Jack Riddell

The numbering for the RAAF Cats i think were
A24-0 to A24-100 ?

It would be really cool if someone could do the skins markings for the different RAAF PBY SQNs.

Here are some excellent reference sources:

RAAF Camouflage and Markings 1939-1945 Vol 2 by G.Pentland . Kookaburra Publications.

and

Catalina Chronical by David Vincent.

Carriers MUST be modeled, the poster that said "not required" is wrong, carriers were the essence of the Pacific war. Even after 1943, two major fleet engagements took place, Marianas, and Leyte Gulf, but beyond that, allied air support for every island assault was carrier based.

The 1941-1943 planes set (carrier based):
F2A-3
F4F-3, F4F-4
SBD-3
SB2U-1
TBD-1
TBF-1

The 1943-1945 Plane set (carrier based)
F6F-3, F6F-5
FM-2
SBD-5
TBM
SB2C-1C, SB2C-3, SB2C-5

Other gents can fill in the land based stuff....man, this is exciting!

absolutely necessary.
without carriers the game is a lame duck. if you read carefully , the developers are working on same with fb engine.i hope and i dont know if it's possible to have working lifts and hangars with animation on deck and below.last time i saw this was 10 years ago with pacific strike by origin or with wing commander 3.soon i will publish the basic list of carriers we need at least in the first game release.i've already listed the ground items and oleg gave the nod of approval in his reply number 13

CARRIERS
........
based on historical importance and events from 1942 to 1943 below is a list we need to kick off.
U.S.A
-----
LEXINGTON
HORNET
YORKTOWN
ENTERPRISE

JAPANESE
--------
KAGA
HIRYU
SORYU
AKAGI

aircraft carriers where not just decks to land on.they where bustling cities below .what would be needed is the possibility to go down one floor by lift or just by pressing a key if the first is not possible and go to hangar area.this really would be a great improvement for the sim community.
please feel free to comment more on the above list and subject.i have included a lot of carrier photo's but for some tecnical reason very little is appearing even though i did see the first print appearing.

what does a good carrier campaign consist off?
-----------------------------------------------
dowload the manual of 1942 the pacific air war by microprose.sadly enough this is 10 years old now and we have seen nothing to replace or to improve on this game since then.Type in search microprose then downnload manual.
