They forgot to put it in the game or I'm just lucky and never get it?

Side note : look closely, the P-38 shot you posted features a K-14 gunsight, and is therefore not one of the ones already in game http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I think you don't see the cockpit damage that often because it usually is a Pk, it does come up though Seems to be more frequant in QMB.

Had the shot up gunsight in P47-D22 just last night.

Couple nights ago lost the tail of a P-40 just like in your picture.Flew pretty decent except for no rudder control.

Its modeled just keep flying you will see it eventually.

I've seen bullet holes in my canopy all the way back to IL-2 1.02. Not always on a PK either.

No, hence why i put it as a "side note".

And i for one am glad that we don't get them often. Being alive after such a hail of bullets go through your cockpit would be a miracle. Miracles happen, but in a sim, you can't model them, or else they happen much more frequently than they should.

I've been trying not to get shot up like that...but I don't recall having such damage on the P-63 or the P-38 despite being hit heavily.

I haven't actually been shot down in a P-63C yet (nobody seems to bother shooting at me when I fly it) so I'll let you know the next time http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

My guess is they didn't put it in the game. The P-39 also has this "feature".

Now that is a good point, some of the planes, mainly the P-39/63 and P-38, border on invincibility. I have yet to score a single non-manuever kill against either. I dump my entire ammo load (while flying Fw-190A or Bf-110) into them and they continue to fly with no problems. All I can do against them is chase them around occasionaly putting a few shells in them and wait for them to stall out. Shooting out the engines does no good, they can burn all day without bringing the plane down. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/51.gif About the only thing that works is severing their controls but that is pure luck and most of the time they can fly without that control.

Has anybody sent a bug report to 1c? I just watched a track in Arcade mode where it was clearly visible that the bullets went through the glass of the P-38 (even through the gunsight) but there was no resulting damage to the glass.

IMO, I think those would be head on attacks, it would be hard to get those holes from behind. I have flown the P-63 on many occasions and the engine is the first to get hit. As far as the other picture goes I would say flak damage or a whole lot of KIs aiming just for the wings.

Could it be that these are development models used by the Maddox Team to do certain things? just because a picture of it exists somewhere doesn't mean it's in the sim.

I mean, all those development pics of FB that were here before FB was released are things I've never seen in FB: I have never, for instance, see a wire frame model of a Yak flying in FB. I also have never seen the damage model layout pics in FB, either.

If they are things that nobody has seen in-game, the reason might be: they were tools used to make the sim, not a part of the final product.

To be honest, I dont know. I gave oleg the files, and he does what he will with them. There are a lot of details that I did that I have yet to see. Like shooting the cowel off the Spitfire and exposing the Merlin engine. Or blowing a panel off the Go-229 to expose the Jumo engines. I have not yet seen any of this, but that again does not mean its not there.

ok let me get this stright ....

only __American__ planes are allowed to be tuff ?

have you even tried to bring down a P-47 or P-63 yet Havok ?

P-47's we have photos of coming back with 20 20mm rounds, and over 100 machine gun hits on them.

True, not every P-47 that took that kind of damage made it back to base, but there has never, to my knowedge, been a P-51 or Bf-109 that survived even half that kind of punishment, even with 109's flyign over their own territory.

And besides, Thunderbolts don't take your entire ammo load, and then proceed to quickly fly rings around your plane, before shooting you down in turn.

The P-38 is hard to bring down, I'll give you that, but for me at least, a lot of that has to do with my propensity to shoot through the large holes in the aircraft, rather than an overly durable structure.

The P-63 I haven't flown against, so I can't really give any information there.

Though, in all fairness, the Ki-84 isn't invicible, rather the aircraft is fairly robust for a plane that has such a incredible ability to get out of the way. A couple seconds of 0.50 will bring it down, but you never get that much time, before the plane has climbed or run out of your range, and short bursts on target don't seem to do much to the aircraft's performance.

Mostly it is an exceptionally frustrating plane to fight against. The aircraft is such that a competent pilot should be virtually untouchable in it.
