But still while i'm at school i want to ask this question, has anybody played gmae called Lock On is it a good game i mean is as good as Il-2 only it uses modern planes.

Only in the spirit of attack, born in a brave heart, will bring success to any fighter aircraft, no matter how highly developed it may be.

Yes I own the game.

Played and it looks really good, it is very resource hungry and at the moment has a few bugs some more serious than other.

If you have 2Ghz PC with 1Gb Ram and 128mb gfx card (9800pro would do) then it should fly pretty well and with the new patch coming soon it sorts out a lot of problem for people.

Def. worth the investment if you ask me.

Last time I tried it didn't run on my rig.
Don't know if they fixed all the bugs yet - but I dont think so. Also it's very limited on-line (only 8 players I think)...

Anyway FB is far more fun http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Its great game. Never had a problems runing it on Radeon 9500 non pro and AMD 1600+.

The only issue for me was online game. But patch is on the way and it will address all multiplay issues and online play willl be improoved significantly.

Hi,
I have Lock On and IMHO it sucks. If you can get the game to run smooth and defeat the large learning curve it might be an ok sim. Maybe they have fixed the frame rate issues in the recent patches but Im not sure. Hope you have a decent rig if you plan on getting Lock on.

Uhhh are you for real?

You purchased a modern combat flight sim withmedium to high learning curve what did you expect? It's not an arcade style sim nor does it claim to be.

In terms of gettin performace out of it yes it does take some horsepower but you can make some tweaks to the settings and get it to run very well.

You should revisit the sim once the new patch hits the streets which is any week now.

Yes Scen, I am very much for real. If you read my post you will see it states that this is my opinion. I have no desire to "learn" how to play a sim that doesnt run right to begin with on my machine. I also never stated that is was an arcade game or claimed to be. You seem to have read much to far into my post. I simply offered that the game had a high learning curve and did not run well on my rig. These two factors combined make this game "suck" to me, not saying that once patched properly I wouldnt give it another try.

Well there is also a demo I think so try that out... The demo was very slow on my rig - and I didn't have much of a learning curve (not to fly anyway), I used to play Flanker 1...

When the final version game came out I borrowed it from a friend and try to run it - it was a no-go from the start - it installed, I ran it then it froze - wow - so I started again - but never got any other result...

But LockOn is bugged more (far more) than FB and FB has a far greater immersion factor IMHO

- I'll let it pass.

p.s. My friend stopped playing it too http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Don't worry Gun-n-Run. On the Lomac Forum you can't say that the game sucks because your post will get dele.....

Lock-On is a great game.
Lots of detail. And the planes have tons of different weapons. The A10 is really addictive.
But I guess I'm one of the lucky few that seems to have it running well. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Not only did I have the usual horrendous technical problems in spite of a very good gaming computer, but there's one thing that no one ever mentions.

The key configuration is every gamer's worst nightmare. Worse, every time you change one of those demon-infested keys binds, it pops you up to the top of the list. ARRRRGGHHH!!

Those two problems have kept me from getting it. I no longer consider it to be an option. Apparently, I shall never have a modern fighter simulation, as all realistic ones are either ancient or impossible to use (like Lock On). And I'm not saying that it is "too realistic" or "too hard to fly." The flight model, from what I could deduce at one frame per three seconds, is exceptional. It's too bad, really.

The patch seems to be taking a long time to develop.

Well, if you like flying you must have it. It has problems, but with patient and help with LockOn forums, you'll enjoy that jet sim. But doesn't matter what LockOn patch will bring - IL2 is my first love!

If I came in here and said IL2 sucks then that would cause a pretty big flame war now wouldn't it.
There is no censorship, it's called following the rules and you must do the same thing here. If you don't like something then fine talk about it in a mature manner without name calling and you can express your opinions all you want.

If you would like to wait until the patch is released and find out what kind of feedback there is then by all means do that. It's a fun sim if you like modern air combat and the online community is there for LockOn many are just waiting on this upcomming patch.

I have Lock On. I bought it because I love flight sims and anything that isn't prefixed by "Microsoft Combat Flight Sim" generally ends up on my shelf.

Had some serious buggyness issues and like one of the posters above that's put me off putting the considerable hours in to learn it.

However, I will certainly be revisiting it after the patch, hopefully it'll tidy things up a little. No doubting that it looks the nuts and bear in mind there are plenty of user mods around to make it run faster. Those who can run it well seem to love it.

Cheers, Spinner

So, in modern weapon system parlance, Lock-on is still reaching maturity http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

"As weaponry, both were good, but in far different ways from each other. In a nutshell, I describe it this way: if the FW 190 was a sabre, the 109 was a florett, or foil, like that used in the precision art of fencing." - Gunther Rall

LOMAC is good game and if you are willing to tone down some gfx features you don't need a super rig.I have AMD XP 2000+, GF4Ti4200128, 1GIG od DDR and LOAMC run just fine at mid ffx settinsg.
BUT, be prepared that ealism is not that high as i in IL2FB and AI is sometimes real PAIN in the ***...

Altitude, speed, manoeuvre and.... CRASH!
