Wonderful!

The Gladiator pit is a work of art /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Oh, and btw, if we get the Tirpitz, plz may we have Lancasters w/Tallboys too? /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

"As weaponry, both were good, but in far different ways from each other. In a nutshell, I describe it this way: if the FW 190 was a sabre, the 109 was a florett, or foil, like that used in the precision art of fencing." - Gunther Rall

~S~ Sir, Fantastic workmanship !

It gives us something to wish for come spring.

I hope that the sense of urgency for the 1.2 upgrade has ceased so that feedback from users of 1.2b can be applied to the final release.

Wonderful!

Very glad, to see the Gladiator-cockpit, simply wonderful and imho the most authentic looking pit. Is this Captain Haddocks nearly photorealistic artwork? If it is so: chapeau and carry on! Make an end with the intolerable Gloster free zone in FB.

The Gladiator looks amazing. I saw a real Gladiator fly a few years ago at the Shuttleworth collection and it was a very impressive aircraft. The power to weight ratio is much higher than I expected for a biplane and the thing stormed around the sky over the display field.

Very much looking forward to this one.

That cockpit texture for the Gladiator is a masterwork, no doubt. I think it was Snorri who did that? I can't remember for sure, but to the artist, well done Sir!

I hope that "reading between the lines" is correct and there is more than one pay for CD in the works.

This gives people the chance to complete so many of those a/c in various stages of development and.....maybe some suprise maps. The Gulf of Finland was a geographical "work of art" and I would love to see another grand theater be developed in order to use these new aircraft.

About this particular Gladiator.

J8 is the Swedish designation for Gloster Gladiator, J8 representing the horsepower of MKI and this J8A (which is beeing implemented in the game) the motoreffect of the MkII.

Now I really guess that some people would get "annoyed" about German instruments in an Eglish Glad, but Sweden bought this airplane in the 30ies, and of course we couldn't use English instruments, we only knew how to read METRIC instruments, thus a mixture of Swedish, German AND English instruments. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

PS: Regarding the Gunsight, yes it should be German as well /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

more about J8A can be found here:

This cockpit is a team effort.

It's all thanks to Orheim and his long hours of research, translation, visits to museums, phone calls to experts and letters to veteran pilots. I'm just doing the easy bit: models and textures.
Oh, and the instrument models were done by UberAlan and Onion. I just did the textures.

Behind every detail there are countless emails discussing every possible option, variant and change made by the pilots in the front-line. All great fun I have to admit.

Thanks all for the kind words. Really appreciated /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

PS. As Orheim hinted... Revi coming soon. The current British Reflector Gunsight MkII will only be used in the MkI and MkII. This gunsight is modelled thanks to the brilliant pictures kindly sent by Ed from Target for Tonight. Thanks again Ed!

Too Kind Haddock,

I did all the easy work, researching anyone can do, For this kind of amazing work of art it takes talent, something you've got in tons.

And yes - this project has been so much fun, I will certainly miss it. Now I have to find something else to spend those late nights on!/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

By the way Haddock. I got a question in Netwings regarding the textures:

"are those textures 256x256 resolution???"

Cheers mate

Incredible Gladiator 'pit! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif I guess we'll see a lot of Gladiators roaming the virtual skies when she's released and the Swedes and Finns take off.

Might have to give my beloved P-40 a short vacation to take her for a spin myself. Nothing quite like battling it out in a plane with Swedish instruments! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Lots of and Ӟ and ...!!!

but still there are enough German and English instruments left in the cockpit, I guess we Swedes are a pragmatic people, don't care what language the instrumenst are in, as long as they are good LOL.

It seems like they put more work on the gladiator cockpit than any other cockpit. Whats up with that? Is the gladiator special or something...

XyZspineZyX
11-04-2003, 12:35 AM
One quick question about the Gladiator model. Will it feature skis as gear on the default Winter model? The Swedish ones (and Finnish probably) had skis instead of wheels for landing on snow covered runways. Probably not though, might be too complicated...

Speedbar.
This model is done by enthusiasts , and things made by enthusiast are often made with love and appreciation for details. Many countless hours have been put down in finding the exact texture on instruments, panels etc, just to be true to the original (which by the way is located at Malmen Airforce Museum in Link¶ping, Sweden. The staff there have been very helpful in the research, and always been happy to help out, even though I have called them sometimes a bit too many times)

Haddock and his co-modelers has been absolutely stunning in their work with the details, also a sign of true interest and joy of the work. Their work speak for itself!!

Ketalar.
I really don't know about the skis. You are right, there should be skis (and they are modeled) if the Finnish Winter War ought to be portraid correctly, but if they wil be implemented in the game I don't know. I guess that is up to Oleg and the limits of the game,

The cockpit of the Gladiator is the most amazing I have ever seen! It's thanks to people like F19_Orheim and Capt. Haddock this game continues to give countless hours of fun! Without volunteers like them and the other excellent 3rd party modellers this game would have faded earlier.

But what is the story with the Tirpitz? If I recall correctly it only saw operational service off Norway and in Norwegian fjords? Is something norwegian going on here?

Skarphol

XyZspineZyX

No story with the Tirpitz. I just didn't think the Niobe was quite "uber" enough.

Even without 3rd party stuff IL-2 would be fun. 1C makes most of the addon stuff anyway.
