View Full Version : Request for future AI: disimilar aircraft fighter tactics and individual country tactics

each country used different tactics once in a dogfight.
germans for example ussually made one pass and extended, ussually upwards. solid tactics that kept them alive. they avoided turn fights when possible. attacked with alt and stayed above the enemy. when they had speed advantage they used it to escape slower enemies.

when I fly a campaign I find ai uses only basic turnfight and overshoot tactics for all planes, making the best turn fighters the most succesful planes in the game for ai.

this problem can be clearly illustrated by going into quick combat mode with me262s vs la5s or la7s.

the 262 drones will chop throttle and try to make la7s overshoot and ignore their massive top speed advantage.

thats an extreme example.

in campaign i watch as my drone 109f4s i lead to a hoard of lower enemy russian i16s immediately blow their alt advantage and begin turn fighting.

now i know I am spoiled because I have been playing MMOG ww2 sims a long time and expect disimilar aircraft combat tactics from my oppenents which are human and the results are never predictable (making it always different and always interesting)

that said il2fb has the best ai I have seen.
and since it its ai and it follows a routine in a dogfight in the future it would be best to use correct routines perhaps based on top speed of aircraft vs enemy aircraft etc for starters.

the basic hit and run or turn and burn methodology should be applied with of course rookies still using incorrect tactics (as rookies did and do)

Not so simple. Country pilot tactics changed through the WAR, usually learning from Germany. And these tactics go beyond mere dogfighting.

Radio use, or lack of, and formation flying, etc...

You will find that Soviet pilots used high speed tactics against more slower and more agile Ki~27 in Mongolia. What you may want to ask is for Oleg to program AI aircraft to check what they are up against, weighing their speed/turn ability against the opponent's ability, and then fight accordingly, with the Choice being randomly sabotaged by low pilot skill.

I16 against the new Gladiator biplane coming soon (?) will be a Boom~n~Zoom I16, unless the I16 pilot is a Newbie and may choose to turn with the Biplane anyway. I16 against Fb109E will (normally) be Turn~n~Burn I16.

Many Newbie Me262 pilots panicked and tried to turn with P51, so this did happen, from time to time. You can't pin things down so easy. Also, we have pilot stories of Great Aces who think they could get away with a quick turn fight against a better turning aircraft and they made a bad BAD mistake. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Don't even think about Whining around FMB Ace Mission Sculptors. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif We don't care about your little QMB.

Lets see what you have thought up about AI Zero vs AI I153 biplane "quick combat"? Aces or more Aces. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Well, what about it?
