Too much flash?? El wrongo~ I watched the wonderful series Wings Discovery about the "Black Death" aka IL2 Sturmovik, from the 41 model to the 43 version with rear gunner, and some clips of various ones inbetween.
The flash was enormous!! One clip looked like the 37mm wing cannons, the rate of fire was pretty slow but steady, and that flash was freakish- longer than the wing was wide and big around as the cockpit glass!
One short clip looked like buckets of P-tabs were getting dumped out of the floor. Cool Show.
The flair of the rockets was larger\brighter than the game however. Interesting to observe the rate of fire from the Laggs (I think) and Il2's
The muzzle flash from the 109s were bright but inconsistant. Either powder variation or the speed of the film, not sure.
My familiarity with the game makes looking at such videos far more intersting

I watched it too wings of the red star the muzzle flashes didnt look that big to me and the ROF seemed pretty slow compaired to fb but maybe the film was slowed down.

Did you see the thing about the guy who counted 200 bullet holes in the il2s body.

But then they say with the russians they were very secretive theres no proof or pictures and no records or guncam footage was saved, and they talked about russian propaganda which was funny http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Do you think they destroyed the footage or never had it to begin with?

Yes, but in REAL LIFE (not on film at 24 frames per second, the speed of nearly all standard film), the flash might be huge in size, but lasts an infintesimal fraction of a second--barely enough to notice with the naked eye.

The process of filming causes it to appear as if each individual flash lasted 1/24 seconds.

So, yes, the game might appear like that film you saw, but if you think the flash effect resembles reality, you are dead wrong.

Hawgdog, watch 12 O'clock High. Yah it has lousy plots but there is much WW2 aerial footaged shown.

Not much flash seen, if at all.

you are forgetting the different powder used in ammo by germans & russians & the rest of the nations in WW2

the Muzzel Flash in FB is so Hugh because Oleg wants that part of his baby to be a little spectacular

IRL the flashes were nowhere near as big or visible

i think a setting in the Config INI file to lower it would be excellent

I totally agree with the muzzle flashes. 12 OC High is a disapointment. Fast forward towards the end, thats where all the flight scenes are. Authentic! Though.

Guys, it is "12 O'clock High", the 1 hour TV series, not the movie.

Bloody blackout - could not get back to you before this.
