If turning beats my opponent, why wouldn't I turn?

If energy fighting makes me get an advantage, why wouldn't I take it?

I would turn when I could score a kill, and I would boom and zoom when that would score me a kill.

Why would I make up a set of rules that even the odds of me getting shot down? ACM is not about being fair.

That means 50% of the time, I lose. No, I don't like it.

I can't help but think of what real fighter pilots might say about this. Greg Boyington would laugh at the idea. And then he'd probably kick you in the butt-tocks http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif John Boyd would just ignore you for the rest of your lives...Eddie Rickenbacker would rev the engine he was working on so loudly, you'd just go away http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Saburo Sakai is supposed to have been a pretty nice guy, he would probably suggest you give up the idea of being a fighter pilot before you got hurt.

This is a game, but I wouldn't play to even the odds unless I was goofing or learning to fight in another type of plane I wasn't familiar with, or have some other real reason to do it other than 'TnB is for noobs'.

I think all you guys are unsporting. A real sportsman would lineup head to head with a guy. Its cowardly to shoot someone in the back, anyone can shoot someone from behind no skill required at all.

Whatever works. As long as the planes are not totally gay FM or DM wise, whatever works, is ok.

La-7 is the only totally gay plane now,
Bf-109/G2, P-39, P-40 being just overmodelled more than a bit.

There`s nothing wrong with B & Z at all. This is just trying to polarise the situation into `Them` and `Us`.

I am mostly an allied flyer, but when the opportunity arrives I will B & Z in ANY plane ( an I16, Hurri, laggs, LA5/7s whatever). Of course some Allied planes need care and you must know when to quit or become one with the Earth!

With all due respect frag_bravo, I tend to agree with tttiger, yet I almost always enjoy your threads. Perhaps you could argue that they are lighthearted rather than nonsensical--certainly your threads are usually flame-free (or at least flame-******ant). Its nice to have a few threads that aren't so flamingly militant now and then.

All of these threads are very silly, in some cases started by people who know better, in others, like this one, I have my doubts :>

Energy advantage and energy management boils down to a lot more than 'T&B' or 'B&Z'. It is possible for an I-153 to have energy superiority over a Bf109K4 in a very limited area of the envelope - in those cases it makes sense to dive, attack, escape, re-setup.

I just don't get the whole fascination with "rock, paper, scissors" some people have in comparing planes. It does not work like that and never has.

Here here! I agree with Clint_ruin. It's all about the pilot and the situation.

No matter how realistic they make the A/C and the landscapes, flying a sim is not real. Our lives are not at risk, we are having fun. In real life B&Z made a lot of sense, you would only get into a turn fight if you had the advantage or no choice.
In my opinion flying totaly BnZ may give you points but not much fun as you are not in a 1 to 1 contest, just a shooting gallery.
Do we not all fly on line to experience the thrill of fighting against another Human pilot.
The pilots I admire the most are the ones that fly a mixture of both.
