The Mighty 8th is a great game, for it's time. It has a perminant home on my hard drive.

My guess is that you patched it and now don't need the cd to run it, lol. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

great game!

I love using the norden bombsight though, hit the target everytime. It was the first sim I ever had so I guess thats why I hold it in such high regard. But then again if your coming from il-2, it can be dissapointing.

Ugh... don't really like that game. I installed it, played a campaign... and was sent home after hitting nothing on the 12 missions that I flew. What an ingratitude. So I just wiped it off my HD! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/mockface.gif

http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif I think B-17 is a brilliant game for when it came out. It has great special effects and damage models. The terrain and clouds are a bit lacking though, and the flight models dont even come close to FB, but this game still does it for me more than any other WWII prop sim(aside from the king FB or course).

One cool thing is that you can bend your wings, rather cool tracers(I know, not realistic)but very hard to hit with.I still once in a while take a quick misson as a gunner. It´s pretty hard to hit those enemy ac´s.Conclusion:I like it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I wish we had Mighty8th's tracers in FB!

It was a good game and some of the effects and campaign features are VERY good, still. Crew-management, complete mission planning, reconnaisance, supplies, etc, to name just a few, of the more important features. I'm still hoping the limited time and theater of BoB will make these possible for a fighter-simulation, too.

(Infact the only problem with Mighty 8th was the time it was released. It wasn't finished and they abandoned it, before it was even released. If it had a full campaign system for German planes, too, as it was designed to have, and it would have been possible to even fly with multiple players in a single B17, this sim would still be alive.)

You guys must not like to be bomber gunners!! If you did you'd never part with this game. I didn't buy it for flying the various planes because I knew it was not foremost a flight sim, was never intended to be. But for gunning, no game, even to date can come close to the realism of B-17II!! The gunnery model ( for defensive gunning ) is far better than FB. Any time I tried to be gunner in FB, online or off, I was disappointed. Not very realistic. Tracers are not as good and the mouse is the mode of aiming in FB, which is not good. B-17 proved the joystick is far and above the best method of aiming a defensive gun in a sim. Also, although the graphics are dated in some ways, such as the clouds, the ground from up high actually looks better than FB ever did. It's fields, meadows, woods, towns, roads and hedges are more random and just look nicer overall than FB. So when some say the graphics in B-17 are poor, they are not totally correct. I always loved watching the fires from what you just bombed as you fly off for home! Nice effect and you can still see it from far away. So there are nice parts of B-17. And the lack of online play never bothered me at all. I still play the game on a semi-regular basis.
