I'm not into jets, or flying unusual planes too much, but I will say that Go-229 (probably the coolest looking plane in FB, imo) surprised me how devistating it is against bomber formations.

Last night Disciple coaxed me into a coop where he and I had a couple 229's against a bomber formation of about 60 B-17's escorted by about 20 P-51's.. The P-51D's did a great job of hanging with us, actually, and if you got lazy or over confident about your speed you'd end up with 10-20 of them right on yur six.. They were too nimble and small to engage with, so we just ran from them, but the bombers were sitting ducks!

There's no question that this thing is a B-17 killer! We ended up with like 4800 for Disciple and 3600 points for me on one run alone, although there were pleanty of times that one little shot from a B-17 would hit your engine and you'd lose it or it would catch on fire.

We each received a couple pilot kills too, on a couple occasions-- I don't know if it's the armor or what.

Plane's kinda cool, though I dont much about it. It has this large front tricycle wheel which I assume you are supposed to land on first, and then just let the rear wheels fall to the ground.. That's how we did it anyhow.

Anyhow, if you get curious about this plane, set up a co-op with a rack of bombers at 6000 meters and just have a good time... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Hey, that sounds fun. I guessed by looking at the large nose wheel that you put it down first, like you did.

Woohoo. I'm glad somebody is actually appreciating the "what-if" planes in this sim.

I can't figure out why some people rag on the P-80 for being a jet, yet they have no qualms flying the equally formidable Bf 109Z.

Uber is state of mind. We're just here to fly.

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

I like the Gotha, but it isn't as fast as some of the other jets, or as nimble. The cannons it has, well, they are a convincing argument.

Personally, I'm a big fan of the He-162. Otherwise, I like the P-80.

For a historical plane set, I'll take the P-38L. I'm really enjoying myself in that bird. If some one tries to follow you in a hammerhead, you can cut one of your engines, full rudder towards the low power enigne, and you flip a 180 like nobody's business. Then, even if the enemy is .30km straight down, you have time to get a good lead on him and destroy him. Good stuff.

P-38 is quite dangerous, too. I was flying a P-80 in Gurberly's server (squadmate), harrying a few P-38's. I have trouble with hitting something when I'm doing 800+km/h, so mostly they just smoked. I got overconfidant and was killed by a P-38 and a collision with a P-63.

Heh, but I iced a few other P-80's no problem. A fun plane to fly.
