OK, here's a situation:

You are down low in a Fw 190A-4, being chased by a above average pilot in La-5. You are both at 100 m alt, going 500 kph+, La-5 is just outside firing range (~500m behind).

No friendlies are around.

You see a friendly airfield with AAA 1 minute ahead.

What do you do ?

Hmmm... I see that La-5 driver really got on your wick.

I would have run away. Who is the bigger fool? he who embarks on a course of action or those who follow him?

"As weaponry, both were good, but in far different ways from each other. In a nutshell, I describe it this way: if the FW 190 was a sabre, the 109 was a florett, or foil, like that used in the precision art of fencing." - Gunther Rall

1. crack open yet another beer...(fyi-the 190 series possessed a compact compartment located rite below the pilot seat which accomodated the inclusion of either a small boar or an ice cooler), and

2. jettison the empties. they make great molitoffs after accommodating a long flight home.

thats all. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Ah Horisto =)

Still dwelling about that a$$hat host? lol.

I would drag him over the airfield and then destroy his aircraft as he attempted to crash land.

Russian aircraft require skill to fly.
German aircraft require ten times that skill, and one hundred times the patience!

I would run and start looking for friendlies.

He will out-climb you, out-turn you, and out-run you (which is complete BS IMHO, La-5 '42 should never do 550km/h at sea-level, it's a joke. No overheat in any reasonable time period either even with radiator closed).

Eighty five percent are running for AAA at this point of the poll and I'm one of them. AAA first, then turn hi/low yo-yos around the friendly guns.

Reach behind for beer, reset TrackIR to center, answer telephone, help wife reboot her computer, put the kids to bed. Watch it on replay later to see what could have been done differently.

Head for the AAA. It'll give the ground gunners good practice. I usually fly in a semi-tight circle almost direcly above the AAA. Doesnt take long for you adversary to go down in flames.

Hristo.. Hi M8!

First, since you are probably already dead, why not try and slug it out.

Since you know he can out turn and out climb you, you cant fight on his terms for sure.

But you can fight on yours.

Slow down. He doesnt slow down as well as you since VVS planes use some sort of drag defying wax on their planes. Suck him in close and drop flaps one notch. Scissor one way and keep slowing down, drop flaps another notch. Dont roll scissor fight him because again, he retains E better. Flat scissor and keep dragging him to your AAA.

If you are lucky, and he isnt a good pilot, you may get a few snapshots in on him. Use long bursts of gunfire and fly him into your bullets.

Try and keep him in your 3-9 if you can, and drop your gear as well.

I mean you have to really really watch your speed and drop all the way down to stall to have a chance.

It can be done, but you will have to have extreme nerve and really know your limits.

You may even get lucky enough that he loses you in the ground clutter..
