That first one was Do 217E-2/R10 (with ETC2000/XII inner wing racks) with 1 X SC1800B on each rack - circa 1942-1943. Most E series were replaced in level bombing role by Do 217K & M variants late 1943 and 1944. Of course E-5 was famous for anti-shipping duties.

Check out that other shot of Do 217E-2/R16 (ETC2000/XII on outer wing)

absolutely backbone of the luft do217 on the eastern front. This and the pe and other flyable twin engine bombers like the sus i cant believe are not flyable.

I would pay double the price of a full version game for just this aircraft alone to be flyable!!!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Do17 wasn't much imho, but I have always thought Do217s were the best, better than Ju88 even.

Absolutely NO. What we really need is a Ta 183 and the Vought XF5U "Flying Pancake", both with a beginner friendly FM...

The Do 17Z-2 was very active as a bomber on the Eastern Front up until about the end of the battle for Stalingrad.

The Do 217 was mostly a Western Front bomber, with very few actually being used on the Eastern Front.

Definitely! This bomber was developed by a third party and development went through Il2 Center. However, modeller couldn't achieve satisfying results with texture mapping (some panel lines were incorrect), so he quit with the project http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif.

I totally agree. The Allies NEED the B17s, B25s, & PE-8s VERY badly. I love flying the Bf110 and He111s and then I see some poor Allied guy trying to fly TB-3s and I think how lucky the Axis teams are right now.

But to answer the initial question: YES! The Dorniers are amongst my favorite German bombers! But I'd like to see Allies on "equal ground" first.

As far as I know, the allies are getting several variants of the B-25, A-20, Beaufighter, possibly even B-26 flyable in PF. I would not be surprise to see even a B-24 flyable with all of the stuff that went around on netwings before Luthier came back and swoop all of the worthwhile projects and most of the talented/serious modellers for PF.

There is no time to get Do 217s flyable, but it would be nice at least to have a later war Luftwaffe bomber in the combined sim FB/AEP/PF, wheter its a Do 217K-1 or Ju 188 or He 177.

With the post that Oleg made on the German forum, it's clear that not much will happen or get changed for FB (and or PF for that matter), and the focus will soon switch almost entirely on BoB, which is both good and bad IMHO. Good because I think with the experience gained in Il2/FB/AEP/PF, Oleg should be able to make a kick *** sim in BoB and following add-ons. I hope the dynamic compaign system gets a major overall as this is where the bulk of the issues are with FB/AEP. Great simulator but needs more involving & real dynamic campaigns. SWOTL was by far the best in that category.

Bad because BoB won't be around for about another year, and that it will only cover early war and the channel area to begin with with a restricted plane set, and that we will have to wait another 6 month to a year to get other fronts (such as the well awaited for Med/North Africa).

I would also like to have allied bombers, I fly red most of the time, but when it comes to 3rd party modellers, such things as choice and priority are not really to be debated : if someone gives to 1c maddox a well done model as long as infos in a correct time pattern, the plane has a chance to make it in the game.
It's not like if we had to choose between several planes to be included, we'll rey on the modeller's choice and his skills.

About allied bombers, since we'll probably get several US medium bombers coming along with PF, I'd rather have some soviet bombers, especialy Il4 or Sb-2 which saw much more action than the Pe-8 (but again it's not a matter of choice)

I'm sure you would find that the modeller reluctantly quit the project as there would be more than a few issues other than with "panel lines". I dont know whether people realise that a lot of hard work goes into making these models and I imagine it would be a great sacrifice to give them up as it were. However if there are problems I would hope that they are sorted out at the development stage. Or else you get problems further down the line, like the not so wonderfull P-47 cockpit, Spitfire skinwrap, P38 skinwrap, He111 skinwrap, Stuka skinwrap... etc.

"It works" or "it sort of does work", I guess I'm in the "it works" camp.

Cheers.
