Fellow Jugheads,

The sweet spot of .50 cal convergence needs to be found. I have read that some have success with 180, 200, 350, etc.

I find that 400-500 works best since the big ol' girl is a little slower than those late model German hot rods. I never seem to get up close and personal so 400-500 lets you reach out and touch someone. Maybe Oleg has left us a hint since all planes default to 500 out of the box.

Please post and maybe we can come up with a setting that offers the most success.

300m at start of firing, 190 explodes at 200m after 3 seconds (when u can manage to stay on tgt). The 109 is shredded and explodes faster. Aim for behind the cockpit. Helps to have a slight Rt rudder when firing to offset the nose tracking left. Seen it, done it.

300m for me. Most of the rest of our group is somewhere between 200 and 400m. Its a matter of personal taste and combat tactics.

I was using 161.8 & was realy shreding ac when I could get that close.

since its about 2 times out of ten I backed it off too 180 for a while didnt see much improvment so Im @ 200 now and probly gona stay there.

to help offset the ac give 2 taps on right aleron trim & 1 on right rudder trim /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

I'm at 275 meters for my machine guns and 300 meters for my cannons. I've tried lower settings on the P47 but since I usually don't get close enough I can't score any killing blows at closer range.

The other problem is that the P47's guns (and rightly so) are further apart on the wings than most other aircraft. A Bf 109 for instance can sneak through inbetween your shots depending on the positions you have when shooting.

I think the P51's tighter arrangement may boost some peoples impressions of the .50 cals and allow people to find a better convergence. And then there is the P38 that doesn't even need convergence really...those will pack a good punch.

250 for me

Well ya, a sweet spot is very important.

I know you guy's have your own preferances but a 50cal mg gun was only realy efective up to 200m in real life.

Last week i changed my convergence from 300m to 250m. i usualy start to fire at 300m. Well i notice now the BF's dont last very long if i can keep firing until i reach 200m.

Im thinking of changing the convergence again to 200m. actualy i think i will. Ill start firing at 250m and seee what happens.

Umm, sorry for rambling.

set 'em for 3000m that way the bullets will be spent when they hit my 109 /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

haha, 700? when should we start firing?

XyZspineZyX

100 meters. Start spraying from 200 meters if carrying extra ammo and if at high speed. One short burst will annihilate anything (except Tigers ;-)

Most people complaining about "ineffectivity" of the .50's don't realize that the enemy will be crippled beyond recognition even if he or she does not immediately explode like the Oleg-modelled 109's.

I set mine at 180, I have tremendously destructive effects on other planes.

Like most of you, I also set my convergence at 300m for the Jug, and for most other planes. Wing guns won't ever do as much concentrated damage up close at that setting, but there's a reason I use it. Since I only play coops or offline, some of my opponents are going to be AIs. Since AIs have eyes in the back of their heads and can't be surprised, I open up at medium range. This is sufficient to down Bf109s, but Fw190s are tough to bring down now.

If I'm attacking ground targets, I set guns to 500m.

I'm serious.
Play the quick mission builder. Get behind whatever friendly lamo target airborne, slow it down to 1/4 speed, dont forget the icons to see the distance, max zoom with the gunsight view, and watch and learn.
You can see the hits nicely and its slow enough to study whats happening.
A couple of bursts when you are closing will often rattle them into a mistake. If you make a nice headon, its OVER for all the 109's, and you are shooting before they do, gives you time to roll and boogie.
Hey its worth the try. I use 250 online if theres a great number of fighters, otherwise 500-700

i find 300 for one set and 100 for the other set works good, open fire when one set is in range then finish em as u close with the other set

I find 300m gives good results while still alowing manouvering distance.

I've read before up to 600+ on American planes.

In theory when the bullet travels lets say 400M it has lost half of its energy when it hits the target as opposed to a hit at 200M, so get up close and let it rip./i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
