SPB (Tb3 with two I-16 under wings) is this for real?? Will you be able to have two pilots in each I-16 drop and fight?
Dang, this should be interesting....if not suicidal online DF games /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Whats this thing? YP-80 Shooting Star

Whats this? Ho-229

Back to the SPB, who did this work, couldnt find anything on the net about it. What a death trap LOL

p.s. Tully, you had the original "crap planes thread" and thats where the phrase came from

Yeah,I've heard you can taxi the I-16 underneath the wings of the Tb-3/SPB,hit a button, and you are attached for take-off. I'm confused about its uses though. I thought the I-16s were attached for defense of the Tb-3. That way they can conserve fuel, and when the bomber is intercepted, they detach and take on the interceptors. But a while back, someone told me this wasn't true and that the attached I-16s were used for dive-bombing,instead...go figure.

I dont get it...
so the i-16 will not be flyable while they disconnect from the tb3???

Those I-16s indeed were dive-bombers. That was a special type just for the TB-2 which can carry 2 FAB250s. 2 of them were slung under the TB-3's wings and then they got 2 250 bombs each. The TB-3 as carrier was used to increase the range of that I-16 IIRC - and the TB-3 could carry it's own internal bombload additionally. With stronger AM-34R engines, it can do 277km/h on the deck with I-16s attached which are running, too. That's almost 50% more speed than the TB-3 we have now.
Now what I heard is that we can have them attached like glider tugs in offline or coops and there's an attach button which will be used for releasing and attaching on the ground. Rather weird stuff, should be quite interesting in a scripted DF though. Of course these I-16s can be used as fighters, too /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif .

BTW: It's done by Luthier who already made the existing TB-3 M-17, I-16s, I-153s and BI-1.

Here`s one they made earlier you think the I-16s will be bad

YP-80 is the USA's first operational jet fighter. Like the other German jets that are coming in the expansion, their uses were very limited and their combat experience in WWII virtually non-existant. Still, they are part of a sort of 1946 "what if" realm of aircraft and since their are fairly well known among the WWII sim communities its worthwhile to have their appearances there.

I believe they were all fan made so no development time, minus the flight modeling and implemetation, was spent by Maddox/1C.

I'd love to see a 1946 server with the jets and the high performance prop planes like the Ta-152, the Tempest, Spitfire XIV, and La-7. I think it'd be fun...on regular servers, may cause some consternation with the less adaptable and accepting.

The TB-3/I-16 combo has made some raids against Romania.

I agree, I think server hosts tend to be very conservative with planesets. I'd enjoy stuff like 1930's server (I 153, PZ 11 and TB3), Flash Gordon Server (Bi1s only) Air destroyers - behemoths of the skies (TB3s only) Battle of Britain (Hurricanes v. Stukas, Heinkels and 109Es), Flying tanks: Hot Il2 on Il2 action, etc, etc.

Sure, you wouldn't want to play this kind of thing all the time, but it would be a fun break from the norm.

It would be tricky for the I-16's to re-attach to the TB3 after their mission!!! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

i dont care how crappy a plane it is...still sounds like fun! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Read pages 15 to 18 from "Polikarpov Fighters in action Part 2" if you see it in any of the military bookshops or libraries. Has some information on the Zveno I-16 type 5's and their operational use. And yes, they were dive bombers and it was to increase the range. Wasn't suicidal either, as they had some sucess. Part 1 deals with the I-5, I-15, I-152 & I-153 Polikarpovs.

Are you sure necrobaron? catch me on HL some time and i'll take you up for a coop hop and we'll try to break my record of 10 consecutive loops in a tb-3 /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

That's what i find so screwy about FB....you can do 10 loops in a tb-3 and a p-47 can bearly do one /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
