Hello all. We have had a certain change in the feel of this board since the original game. Seems to be a lot more negative posts and sarcasm. Oh well.
Many planes have been displayed in the development section. I smell add-on cd. With the original game we got about four patches and two or three freebe planes were thrown in with each release.
Now we have the Mistel, P51, me163, gotha, zero, he162, and a bunch of others lined up.
It seems like we are not getting any information from the top as we have in the past. Not an exact date but just genrally what is going on.
Anyone feel the same way. (let the sarcastic responses begin!)

who knows, with payware they tell you at the last minute i learned from beta testing motorcityonline earth n beyond and wwiiol, they dont mention anything about it being pay to play until its in the store. I hope not but who knows they ruined the mis downloading so scumbags could sell missions. And what you mentioned about the sturmovik patches 3 planes were 50+ megs, so it looks like it and it would definatly be the reason why they are holding information from the community

I doubt anyone would be charged for planes that were developed by third parties.

That's like getting free candy from someone and then selling it to others.

Gibbage told us himself he would like to get some $ for his contribution.Oleg said a word about a separate addon too.I doin`t think it would be free.

And again I tell ya - there will be max two planes in the patch. Most likely P51 and Ta152.

I read they offered money to the third party editors, but they turned it down, and just wanted their names in the credits.

If so,then it would be immoral to charge for the addon without giving`em some $.Wait a minute...what am I sayin(writing)...this is buisness.

Halt!!!
All of you keep your pants on.
How about let's all wait, for a few days, and we will see the result of our concerns.
If the patch is smaller then 150Mb( and promably is) then would be an absolute stupidity to ask money for it if it contains so little flyable aircraft's.
Anyway, I have studied verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry carfully the entile website, and in my humble opinion, the patches will be free for downloading.
Anyway it will probably be a better ideea to buy it , because will surely be ALOT of people who will download it , and I sincerely doubt that the server will resist...

Wait up, can't they could charge for the CD and distribution even if Ubi and 3rd Parties don't make a profit?

I would rather pay for CD (with many planes) because when I upgrade or re~install or somehting, I don't wanna download again.

I have post this before http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

...... single aircraft addons, a CD with one aircraft on it, for Microsofts F2002pro cost about the same as the entire FB game ...

Compare the following (Australian) prices

Forgotten Battles. $69.95 AUS

Just Flight - Dash 8 aircraft for FS2002pro $69.95 AUS
Flight 1 - DC9 addon plane for FS2002pro $64.95 AUS
Vmax - B747-200 classic for Fs2002pro $69.95 AUS
Just Flight - Airbis A320 for FS2002pro $69.95 AUS
Flight 1 - 737-400 for FS2002pro $109.95 AUS
Flight 1 - Twin Otter addon plane for FS2002pro $64.95 AUS
Flight 1 - Cessna Cardinal for FS2002pro $64.95 AUS
Flight 1 - Cessna 421C for FS2002pro $54.95 AUS
Flight 1 - Piper Archer FS2002pro $64.95 AUS

These products are ALL single aircraft addons for FS2002 and all sell for close to or in some case much more ($109.95!!)than the original cost of the entire FB program.

I think the handwriting is on the wall, but nobody wants to believe it ...

Too many people are denying that an official add-on or series of add-ons might be only available through commercial avenues. The only logic these doubters are guided by is 1) the precedence has always been 'free' planes through downloadable patches; and 2) many planes are built by independents and therefore should be free to everybody.

Regarding the first argument, remember that 'Forgotten Battles' was first intended to be a commercially released add-on. Some of the new FB planes had already been released in IL-2 upgrade patches, but others had not. Initially the original IL-2 was distributed as a completed project and the free planes were given away as post-development hubris; I think the add-on product sort of developed in concept as interest was generated by the ability to add new planes. Of course the add-on project became a standalone 'sequel' of its own ...

My point is that the very development of the IL-2 series of sims seems to be dynamic in the course it takes. 1C:Maddox Games programmers put a lot of time and talent into preparing new aircraft and features, so it only makes sense to fairly compensate them for their work. The market exists; the series has some clout and recognition. Everybody wants more, more, more.

For a moment, take a look at similar game/add-on franchises. 'Battlefield 1942' immediately comes to my mind; was EA wrong to charge money for the "Road to Rome" expansion pack? Or to charge for the upcoming expansion pack?

I don't know what plan 1C:Maddox or Ubi Soft has for commercial expansions for Forgotten Battles; maybe the details haven't been worked out. To be sure, though, they have so much as said they reserve the right to consider selling any expansions for the FB sim. "Patches fix bugs, add-ons add more into the game." Maybe add-ons will be pressed onto CDs and sold on store shelves; maybe you'll need to use your credit card to pay for downloads. Maybe we'll see an operation like Apple's 99-cent store.

As for the second argument, that third-party stuff should be free or that it can't be sold, may I point out that Forgotten Battles features the work of several independant modellers? Hey, how's that TB-3 flying for you? Are you enjoying your P-47? Feel like bombing a large battleship today? Even if the exterior model already existed in the game, there are several interiors that were built by independents: the Stuka and BI-1 for example. Consider also that these planes won't fly or have working instruments, etc., if a programmer doesn't work out all the details. Again, I don't know the right answer here; I'd like to see hardworking modellers get compensated for their contributions but then again I understand if the 1C company feels that selecting someone's contribution and programming it/tweaking it to work in the Forgotten Battles sim is reward enough to the modeller. After all, many of these projects start because somebody really wants to see a certain plane made flyable in the game.

All I'm saying is nobody should be shocked if upcoming flyables are offered at a price.

I wonder if they are going to do a free patch to fix tuning issues with default, out of the box planes, and a chargeable addon? I would certainly be happy to pay for an addon as long as it worked - unlike Just Flights addon for the original IL-2. If it has the smallest chance of keeping the genre alive then you can have my 20 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Free patch would be great, Pay to own the addon still be good.

But tempting people's expectation with Ignorance which is bad. Look at the Development Updates within IL2's official site. What I liked about 1C's was in good old il2 style, with 100% work with 0% useless announcement.

Maybe I am wrong, but after all that I am feeling tired to check out whatsoever is fact anymore for the development or may call The Sales Game. It is time, should the UBI salesman staff now be aware where they start losing their game...

I bought the game rather late, and expected some patches for downlaod. Was kind of surprised none was offered. With Il2 the patches came out rather regular, so I'm not even sure what's taking them.

Concerning add ons and maybe pay for them, I wouldn't mind to pay for it if they are of good quality. Well, I bought ET, so much for quality heh, but oh well it was cheap and got it all in one sale.

There have been times also where I payed for an add-on which later on was offered for free ... I hope whatever they decide on that they stick with it.

And here some pics of a skin I finished today:

Someone's gotta say something positive here. I love FB, and have only one small problem with it (which I won't go into here). Nothing beats FB, whether that be a combat flight sim (no thanks, Microsoft), or commercial airplanes (again, no thanks MS). I'd love to see more flyable aircraft, of course, but there's already TONS available. Maybe mix up your flying with something else on the list. A P-51 or even a MiG-31 won't solve anything; people will just scream for more. Pay for add-ons; someone should get paid for their work. Download (for free) patches. Ubi owes us a stable program (which IL2FB already is) for the US$50.00 I paid for it.

this game won't be Pay-to-Play, the games you see that are Pay-to-Play are MMORPG games (massivly multiplayer online RPG) they have online trates that normal games woulden't, there isn't an end to their story, ect. ect.

I bought IL2: FB for 45 Euro. I'm 16 years old so that's a lot of money for me. I hope the developers try to be nice, and give us some aircraft in the patch.

I hope the expansion would be cheap, so I can afford it.
