I think that is the ugliest spitfire and the clipped wings versions look horable to me. But as performance its sweet

Looks great! Awesome pictures too...should probably try and get ahold of Fievel...he may find these very interesting!

Is it a XIX or a XIV (or something else)?

Yesss!!!! This bird is beautiful. I prefer Griffon Spits than Merlin ones. The latter, with their tiny prop hubs and bulged down side of the cowling look like candy-barbie-fighters. The Griffon Spit nose is more symmetrical, It looks like a rifle round! Of course these bulges over cylinder heads are little ugly, but that's even better, the battle machine can't be too girly-pretty http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
O.K., all Merlin lovers: you can flame me now, I'm not afraid http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Not enough apparently. They tested a 6 blade "contra-prop." This contraption was comprised of two 3-bladed propellers mounted one in front of the other. The props spun in opposite directions to eliminate torque. It was reasonably functional, but fairly ugly. It was first tested on the mk viii, and later on the Griffon spits.

No problem here, I can let you have a few more if you want, incidently you have the cockpit one reversed as the aircraft reg is back to front :

Oh and to the other question it is a Mk 19 or x1x to you purists http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Also there is a contra rotating 6 blader flying States side now http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It's a PR 19, as in photo recon. like check out the lack of guns and recon paint job ;-) You can't quite see the camera on these pics, but it should be behind the pit left side if I remember right.

yup it is there was also a downward one too, i will load the pics up to p1ngu666's site tomorrow, it was also pressurised hence a pig to get into as well, actually amazes me still that people will give their right arm to sit in it, a local radio station had a competition for charity and were swamped with requests, i never give it a second thought

Best plane I ever got to sit in was the Avro Vulcan. I know the pilot that used to fly 558 down at Bruntingthorpe, who just happens to be part of the team down there. He said "how would you like to sit in the cockpit when they do the next engine test?" ER answers on a postcard :-D.
I'll never forget how it felt thats for sure. Engines were spooled up to 80%, not bad for a trip down on the off chance ;-)
