There's smoke on the ground, pilot equipment is older stuff, colors aren't from best quality, I would say yes these are WWII pics. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/10.gif

Absolutely yes, Italy 1943/44. I've a DVD, "Operation Husky" with incredible movies, very hight quality: P 51 and P 47 first of all.

In the pics you see: P 47 approaching to land, and P 47 in combat (ground attack).

Is it me or is the viewpoint of the pilot higher than what we have in FB?? I dont mean the camera angle, but look at how much the pilot seems to be able to see below the gun pipper "Over the hood" so to speek.

Beautiful Veltro. Just fantastic.
http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I'm a big jug fan, got any from any models prior to 'bubbletops'. Mostly before p-47D-25-RE, would love to see some Razorback cockpit views. The sight has always annoyed me something fierce on the razorbacks. Seems too low down, can't see over the front of the cowling, especially when the radiator flaps are deployed.

Great pics. P-47 is my favorite fighter. But the pics I was really impressed with were the shots of the P-51As all bombed up and ready to go (maybe they were the A-36 divebomber versions?). I think I like the "A" versions of the Mustang better than the later models. I wish we could have a Mustang IA with the four 20mm cannons in FB.

Veltro, about 15 years ago I bought a video, "Thunderbolt!," that covered a P-47 group operating from Corsica (I think) off the west coast of Italy. This group was involved primarily in escort and 'interdiction' ground attack missions. Cameras were mounted in the cockpit (in front of some pilots, in back of others) and in the gun camera position in wings and they provided wonderful footage of ground attack action. I haven't seen this tape for a few years, but the shots you sent look like they may have been frames from the movies or shots from still cameras in the same positions.

What do you know about the original source of these great photos?

I've the original movie "Codice Husky", by Istituo Luce ("Operation Husky" i mean in english). The movie is about italian campaign, with a lot of gun camera that, as you said, provided wonderfull footage of ground attack action (for ex. you can see P 47 and P 51 against italian army in Sicily).

In the movie, P 47 and P 51 take off from italian airfields (captured) in the south of Italy; but also from North Africa i mean, at least for the first actions in Sicily. After, you see italian airfields destroyed and captured.

http://ourworld.cs.com/VeltroF/Folgore0.JPG

I've also some wonderfull pics with B 24 approaching to italian coast.

Nice P47 cockpit pics. The view is very interesting, one can look out over the instrument panel. I have always thought the view we get in FB, has way too much instument panel in the way. I'd like to see more glass area and not gauges rammed in my face, blocking foward views. Looking at those pics, we have it all wrong.

What are those in the background?? A-20s? A-26s?

Fondue USA;

region 2 dvd's arent much of a problem y'know, you can get multi-region stand alone players, or if you have a dvd rom in your computer theres a very high probability someone has made a hacked firmware for it allowing you to switch regions infinitely, like we should be able to anyway. some drives dont even need to be flashed, and if you dont mind paying theres software out there which'll let you play them without risking the hardware setup at all.

region 2 dvd's arent much of a problem y'know, you can get multi-region stand alone players, or if you have a dvd rom in your computer theres a very high probability someone has made a hacked firmware for it allowing you to switch regions infinitely, like we should be able to anyway. some drives dont even need to be flashed, and if you dont mind paying theres software out there which'll let you play them without risking the hardware setup at all.

tfu_iain1 do you know of a website that offers hacked firmwhere? I cant splint the cash for a dvd player that will play dvds from other countries http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif Any links or advice on how to hack my dvd rom would be nice though. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif

Great still shots and I gotta get a copy of that film!

Several posts mentioned open cowl flaps. One (imp something) said he can't see over them in a fight.

I don't have the data at hand but IIRC, you're not supposed to open the cowl flaps above a certain speed, 150 mph I think. Certainly not in a dogfight. I'll see if I can find the correct figure...

Thanks for posting the pics!
