A friend me this story years ago - I thought I would share it...

For context - he was I think the youngest person to get his pilot license in Maryland. We used to fly togerher quite a bit. Althought getting a license so early is questionable, he is intelligent and gifted (are not we all?). He is now a lawyer with the FAA I believe,

Anyway, here it is:

He attended college at Wake Forest U. He would fly a Cessna around while at school just to keep current and practiced. Well, he was at about 2000 feet when the engine cuts out. Despite trying all the procedural stuff - he could not get it started again. So - he looks for a place to glide/land, to what he thinks is to presumably die or be sent to the hospital. Well - he finds a narrow-strip-of a field and goes for it, It is narrow, so he has to tilt the plane a bit to keep the trees from ripping of the wings on one side of the plane. He ultimately crashes and cartwheels. Astonihsed to be alive, he staggers from the plane with bumps and bruises. When he regains his faculties and looks around, he notices about a dozen goats laying around like they are dead. Seconds late, a farmer appears and asks if he is OK. My friend responds yes, and apologizes for killing the goats. The farmer replies something to the effect of "Hell, don't worry about them, they are them faintin' goats. When they get real scared they faint." Well, every few moments one of the goats would get up and wander off.

I read the previous post with the word "goats" in the header. For some reason I immediatley thought of this story. I have not recounted it in years, but none-the-less I think it is a good read for the forum.

Maybe faintin' goats could be in the next Maddox flight sim!

Oh yeah, his crash made the local paper. I saw the picture - the whole event did not even phase him.

Heh, I've heard similar stories about goats "fainting"...Goats can go into sensory overload when overly excited and enter a form of stasis. As far as I know it's not harmful and they recover after several minutes. Funny as "crap" though.../i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Given that the fainting is some sort of defence mechanism, I'm surprised that these goats didn't become extinct a long time ago.

Cougar approaches goat, goat falls over, legs stiff, Cougar eats goat and tells all his friends about it.

A buddy of my father's hit a cow one night taking off from the Redcliffe aerodrome in Queensland. (It was grazing around the strip.)

He was in a Piper something-or-other and managed to peel the underside off of half of his port wing. He managed to bring her around and landed without further mishap. I saw the plane the next day and the image of this buckled, bloodstained Piper is still with me (I was about 11).

There was some legal problems over who had to pay for whose damages and my dad's buddy got sick of everyone asking him when the BBQ was.

It's only funny til someone loses an eye....then it's hilarious

Let me assure all of you the fainting goats will be in the add-on.

I have this from reliable sources.

RBJ himself is modelling the trim on the goats.

Please, I hope we can nip this goat-whining in the bud before it gets too capricious.

Cheers,
