I have an Emachine T4160 and just bought a 9800 pro off ebay. I have heard that emachines have weak power supplies. I am wondering if it will be neccesary to upgrade to a 300+ Watt power supply. Thanks in advance.

I don't have an E-Machine, but my computer had a 250W power supply when I tried to install the Radeon 9800 pro and it just doesn't work. You really need that 300W supply. Personally I would recommend at least a 350W supply.

Go here

and figure out what PSU you need. My rig rquires a 405 watt I get away with my 450 antec. Buy a quality one not some cheepo.

Antec, Enermax, are just a couple of proven brands.

Although not sure but you may need to upgrade case to get a Normal PSU to work. I think E machines have there own special case.

Yep, I can vouch for that, Emachines does have their special case, a thing that keeps you from upgrading too far. I dont think Emachines has a case to fit a 300W supply, I looked and the emachines support never got back to me on it.(its been 2 months). Maybe I didnt look hard enough. Everything is designed to fit in the case to take up all available space, which is pretty sad. Most Emachines carry just a 250W(thats what mine carries-T1842).

As been said above, 300W is the minimum for 9800, she`s a power hungry one.

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

On another sad note you cant interchange your Emachines parts to fit into another case(motherboard, powersupply), you will have to get a whole 'nother machine with new hardware.
