OMG! what a difference when compared to 56K Dial up that I have been using since way back when.... http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Am in the UK (Scotland) and after a Loooong wait to get it, have finally got 1Mbit/s ADSL going. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Roll on the patch http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I know this is OT - sorry, I am just well pleased!

Probably for the community forum this but: Any Tips?

Slight IL-2 Related (more than above) where do I start when going online with AEP? Hyperlobby?. - Yes I know I should do a search, but it's late and I am tired.....

Sadly although I now have a ninja internet connection, My PC isn't quite so uber (P4 1.8 512RAM etc etc)... at least not at the moment (credit card is a bit knackered after all this http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif and needs a rest.) so the Radeon 9800 pro may have to wait a month or so! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Ah well, can't have everything all at once... It'd be nice though LOL!

I live in the UK too and recently upgraded to broadband from 56k - my ping rates on Hyperlobby have dropped from around 350 at best on dialup to between 40 (!) and 150.

Broadband opens up huge possibilities - have fun with it http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Ach Andrew. You are a lucky laddie. I am still on dial-up at 21.6 kbps but don't seem to have any problems playing on-line.

Haven't heard the word "knackered" used for many a year. Certainly not since I left Auld Reekie. It was my closest friend's favourite expression usually used after a tussle with lively female.

If you haven't tried on-line yet, you will love it when you do. Try to find some good guys to fly with. It makes for a more enjoyable game.

Good for you. Playing online with unlame pilots is a pretty nice experience. Seize it!

I also just upgraded to ADSL this last weekend. Wow! Really nice to have it at home. I already knew about fast Internet services since I work at a university that is an ISP for the local community and I have a blindingly fast connection in my office http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

HL is the best place to get started online (and you'll probably remain there) but there is also The-All-Seeing-Eye and of course even ubi.com will work at a reasonable rate now you have broadband.

Broadband also makes a huge difference for voice software like Ventrilo, RogerWilco, Teamspeak, etc.

If anyone is thinking of getting broadband in the UK, so far I can highly recommend www.eclipse.co.uk (http://www.eclipse.co.uk) They've been very fast in setting up my account (two days for everything to arrive), impecable with keeping me informed (online tracker), and I've even tested out their support (because of a stupid error on my part http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/1072.gif) and they are truely quick and helpfull.

Hehe Yeah me too - been at uni the last 5 years, now that IS fast http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif However, at home I have had to persevere with first 33.6 and latterly 56K dial up http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif which has been unreliable not to mention a bit on the slow side.

MatuDa_ - Well bully for you http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Not all of us can AFFORD 10 Mbps - dunno if thats in the uk yet anyways.

Cheers for the links folks

Forgot to say. I am using metronet's PayGo DSL and so far I am impressed http://www.metronet.co.uk/adsl/paygo Made the initial request for service last thursday and was connected yesterday (before the estimated connection date by BT which was this morning) when my modem arrived (had to buy it seperately but preferred to to be honest) Now all I am waiting on is a wireless USB adapter for the PC upstairs and much fun will be had - mainly file/internet/printer sharing- I hope! (the modem has a wireless router built in.)-

Anyone on WiFi? I'm not able to get ADSL nor cable so WiFi is my only broadband option. Is it good for flying or should I stay with my 56k modem? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Now that you have broadband, you should really treat yourself to something special. Check out the movies at this site. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I didn't know... for real ? cool! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Also one bad thing about broadband (for me so far) is it is on all the time http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif and so am I, therefore not getting any work done on this dissertation I gotta finish for 3 weeks Friday! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

The good thing is, if ther is anything good about doing a dissertation - 10MB Journal article PDF's are no longer such a problem to read/download! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
