Have you seen The Last Samurai? Not a true story, but set in true times. Very entertaining movie. Heck, Tom Cruise even has his own P-51 (among other planes). I say bring on another movie I will watch many times!

Are you kidding me? A P51 in the Battle of Britain? Good god, now I know this movie's gonna be **** http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Why can't they just make a Battle of Britain movie with an english cast? Does every war movie ever have to have American's saving the day in it? I mean, I'm American and even I am getting sick of it, lol.

I think he ment that Tom Cruise, the actor, owns his own P-51. The Mustang is not affiliated with the movie at all.

I'm looking forward to the movie for eye candy only, I'm not expecting a historical or even a good story. Seeing aerial battles on the scale of the battle of brittain brought to life with today's technology could be breath taking.

Saw the horse twich a little, so I'd give it another good kick.

isnt the movie a tribute to the american pilots flying in the eagle squadron? Cruise is playing the part of fiske.

I dont know if it will be realistic but hell Im glad to see another recent plane film, it has got to be better the pearl harbors 4 minutes of action 2 hours of yawning.

Also todays special effects should look amazing. I cant stand the old films tora tora tora "white subtitiles on white uniforms and battle of britian vasoline smudge plane explosions. I also dont like how they say the polish and czech squads were a nusiance and more harm then good.

Dark Blue world was an excellent movie and a tribute to the czech pilots who fought for britian.

There were more americans canadians czech and polish pilots then british pilots during the battle of britian. A czech pilot had the most victories hurricane pilot Sergeant Josef Frantisek had 17 victories.

1 Sgt J Frantisek#, 303 Sqn Hurricane 17
2 PO ES Lock, 41 Sqn Spitfire 16 + 1/2
3 Sgt JH Lacey, 501 Sqn Hurricane 15 + 1/2
FO BJG Carbury, 603 Sqn Spitfire 15 +1/2
5 PO RFT Doe, 234 & 238 Sqns Spitfire/Hurricane 15
6 F/L PC Hughes#, 234 Sqn Spitfire 14 + 3 x 1/2
7 PO CF Gray, 54 Sqn Spitfire 14 + 2 x 1/2

I'm sure the movie will be great not neccesarily historically accurate if Last Samurai can be taken as proof. What I'd like to see in the future someday somehow is an aerial Das Boot like for the LW JGs it won't probably get made considering, but anyhow it'd be good to see such movie to put up the experience from the other side so most people can see what the allied pilots had to put up with and vice versa.

Like what I saw Brit tanker say in a History channel program " ...people don't appreciate how good the Germans were in combat, therefore how good we had to be to defeat them."

Anytime Hollywood is discussed, forget about the screen. Lets watch the best action in FB's General Discussion. The enemies are not actors and the bullets, real words. Only problem now is the same old seen time and again, I'm looking forward to the next flick and someone different than Cruise. Too many wimps have made this one a boar.

I'd rather see a European movie about USA Frank Tinker flying I~16 in Spain--the first ever to shoot down a Bf-109.

I can't watch our USA movies anymore lol.

dont forget all the ones from new zealand, australia, south africa, ireland, france, belgian, and arabian.

Initially there was more british pilots but so many lost thier lives during the war. At the end of the battle of britian more foriegn pilots fighting then british pilots.

its not even worth arguing you dont comprehend what you read.

Lex I really wish they would make the spanish civil war theater for this sim its truely a forgotten war, most people have never heard of it same with the aleutians

have you seen that memphis belle movie?? its horrible, the german fighters have wrong guns, they look like they are from a Indiana Jones movie! WIth modern technology a movie like that could be very nice. But it just had to be realistic and not a HERO-movie with wrong facts. Nice idea. I´ve been wondering why this WW2 boom is still on, you know, games, movies. I really would like to see a new movie about WW1 fighters or that war in general. THere are almost none newer movies about WW1??

Why do you keep saying that latter statement?
I've seen youpost it 3 times now, it's false so get it out of your head.

And who said the Czechs and Poles did more harm than good?

All I've seen is them being a bit less disciplined by RAF standards which was true. They were excellent fighters though.

Yes, thats a fact, more foreign refugees as fighterpilots in RAF during BOB-years. THats a very old custom which was a old habit from the old empire. The total amount of dead british soldiers in WW2 is ridiciously small compared to any other nation. Did you know that the concentration camp is a british invention NOT german or russian.

I can see what you're trying to say Lead, but it's simply not true about foreign pilots outnumbering British pilots during the BoB. This quote is taken from the official RAF site;
"'The Few' were 2353 young men from Great Britain and 574 from overseas, pilots and other aircrew, who are officially recognised as having taken part in the Battle of Britain. Each flew at least one authorised operational sortie with an eligible unit of the Royal Air Force or Fleet Air Arm during the period 10 July to 31 October 1940. 544 lost their lives during the period of the Battle, and these are marked by an asterisk. A further 791 were killed in action or died in the course of their duties before the wars end, which is also noted."
http://www.raf.mod.uk/bob1940/bobhome.html

The contribution made by foreign pilots to Britain's cause during our darkest hour cannot be stated enough, without them we would of lost the battle. But they simply did not outnumber the British pilots (except at individual Squadron level like 303 Squadron) at anytime during the battle at all.

I'd just like to add that I am looking forward to the film and hope Cruise and Hollywood will do the 'Millionaire's Mob' Squadron justice. Just a shame that they're probably gonna use Spits instead of Hurris.

Seems like I was sleeping under a rock for the past couple of months since I was not aware that the Tom Cruise B.o.B film was going to be called "The Few". I am making an IL2 film by the same title.... I hope to have it out before his to do the title a bit of justice to those REAL "Few". Here is my trailer if you have not watched it yet :

Oh for the love of God.. some of you people are so unbelievably uptight. Folks, it isn't a documentary. Go plop yourself in front of the history channel and pick out the inconsistencies and inaccuracies from the comfort of your favorite chair or couch if that's what gets your motor running..

Hi,

Of course the British were outnumbered (cough) -we couldn't possibly fight a war on our own - we always have to be bailed out/would be speaking German now/etc

For example, the Zimmermann telegram:

http://www.simonsingh.net/Zimmermann_Telegram.html

Interestingly, this article is different from the account in Singh's 'The Code Book' where British intelligence actually concocted a scenario where the telegram could be intercepted by America. One thing that always impresses me about the British is how underhand they can be...

With respect to the new BoB film, I too would like to see, context aside, the spectacle of the aerial sequences. I just hope that it doesn't turn into a Bruckheimer-style flag waving pile of ****.

Also:

Cheers,

I would much rather watch a two hour slow motion film reel of Jennifer Connelly running through a field in a tank top and a pair of shorts, than watch 2 minutes of Tom Cruise in a Battle of Britain movie.

I get feeling it will just be a "Wind Talkers" or "Pearl Harbor" with white Dover cliffs. I was very anxious to see both of those movies but both were such let downs.

Painfully done to Torture us and make millions off the average movie viewer. But isnt that their goal? The money part that is.
