I like the cockpits, flight and damage models for the most part, and the single missions. The graphics are excellent overall and dont require a beefy system. The maps are well done and the AI is very good.

The campaign is FBs weak point IMO, the linear campaigns in IL2 were much better. I also wish their was more online support in the form of mission objectives and interactive briefings. Radio communication would be awesome.

I like to much to list, but I don't like the sound driver, and I don't like the huge skin file sizes. There's a host of other little nit picks, but they won't see a fix in this sim.

Same I like to much to list but theres only a few things I realy hate so here they are.....

Unrealistic Manuverings to evade Gunfire.

FW roll rate

109 Overheat issue.

Beyond that its all good.

Graphics is very good.

Sound.... is good & realistic to me. There are still some bugs in 1.11, but I believe they will be fixed later.

Dynamic Campaign need to be more improved. more exciting, and more enjoyable....Briefing & Debriefing should have more information & explanation on the mission.

AI need some fixing. AI is relatively good at dogfight. However, it tends to forget their objectives. For instance, escort fighters abandon protecting bombers and keep following enemy fighters or bombers.

That's all. Anyway,FB is my best favorite game. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

What I like (a lot):

1. Cockpit details
2. Complex Engine Management
3. Track recording (great!!)
4. Plane set (immense)
5. Overall appearence (external and terrain)
6. Different flight models that include uniquely authentic flight characteristics for each plane model.
7. Free add ons !!!!!!!!!!!! - hurraay and thanks!

What I don't like:

1. Sound is not the best and I can't play online with sound enabled (freeze).
2. Overly dark cockpits and glass on some models.
3. Planes disappear a little too easily in terrain.
4. Pan view not very state of the art (fixed using new view however).
5. Cameras not attached to objects and weapons unlike so many other sims. (a little nit I admit)

Overall the best WWII Sim I've played!

10-25-2003, 08:28 AM
Likes= Just about all of it, especially damage modeling and corresponding perfomance loss.Plus its just plain nice to look at if you got the right rig.

Dislikes= AI squad mates formation fly like they are braindamaged.

Oh, and sometimes I have to stop playing, you know, sleep, work, make love.....well the last parts not so bad, but I still hate to stop.

I love everything in this game! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif Except.........The sound engine, the collision bug and the lack of true definative updates. All of which pale in comparision to the enjoyment I get overall from the game. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

there is ONE thing in FB that i truly HATE

the fact that i can collide & get wasted whilst the other party flies away fine

then these morons go ~S~ or try to rub in the kill

other wise there are small things that are far from correct , but the COLLISIONS are the only thing i HATE

10-25-2003, 09:29 AM
I love most of IL2/FB, start with that, but what I don't like:

1. unsolved sound issues with Soundblaster

(1b. some unsolved and reoccuring grfx issues, but that is in part with driver crews)

2. poor high altitude modeling

3. AI which doesn't use same FM as player

4. AI does not know how to disengage in a more realistic manner - fight to death syndrome

5. developer's obsession with adding more objects, without expanding the workings of the game (way tactical intelligence in dynamic campaign for instance). That we have some extremely detailed ships, but in other areas an almost complete vacuum...

6. adding a/c without thinking about the balance of the game or the possibilities, and ignoring a/c SETS, like one early Allied medium bomber + Axis medium bomber, that way both are happy with additional a/c. I thinking adding a/c must become more streamlined and in a way of campaign thinking (not only MP free for all).

7. increase emphasis on exotic a/c while ignoring the workhorses, I find that last one VERY frustrating.

I don't think we'll see this being solved by either free or paid add ons, and again the developer choose to start with a sequal - "Battle of Britain" before rounding off the original. Lets see how BoB is executed, at least we start with a clear campaign (or do we, we still do not know what time span and definition we'll have for this BoB - summer of 1940, or the long summer of 1940 to spring of 1941).

I like most of Fb. The sound engine could definately do with some improvements though. The collision 'bug' is annoying, but if you really ram your plane hard into the other plane, there's no problem! Muzzle flashes are too bright. One thing I sorely miss from EAW is the ability to put lots of machines up into the air at once without overloading my CPU. Can't wait to see if Oleg fixes all this stuff in BoB.

I like I2 these is the best sim of ww2 of course. But i require from FB something better. Unfortunately i get only better graphic, some extra planes and some damage model effects. But i'm very dissapointment with FM.

I dislike in FB:

- uncorrect climb rate of same planes compare it to data from FB - expecially La5, La7, I-16, I-153, P-39, Bf G-2, Fw190

- strange damage models of some planes ex. I-16, Fw-190

- effectivity weapons ex russian km and 20 mm cannon compare it to german

- FM of P-39, I-16

- to fast rool rate of Fw-190, La

- bug collision

- and some others which now i don't remember

I wait for 1.2 but have bad feelings http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

2> the silly collision modeling

Couldn't agree more! And it happens everytime I collide with someone, I'm the one that always go down in flames not the other guy!

The sound is bad aswell. WW2 birds should have lovely engine sounds. In FB they all sound like angry or broken lawnmowers.

The insane instability of the D-9. Probably the hardest plane to aim and kill in!

The amount of 20mm damage the Yaks can absorb. It's insane!

The AI is probably the Nr:1 worst thing about this sim.

Appart from all this, FB has a great feel to it, and I'm addicted. And most of the time it's great fun!/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Good things:

1. Graphics
2. Best overall WWII flight sim by a very large margin
3. Some interesting aircraft (F2A etc)
4. Too many other things to mention

Bad things:
1. Campaigns are very weak - all feel the same and don't reproduce history at all well
2. Odd omissions in aircraft - did we really need the TB-3 instead of a Spitfire?
4. AI has 360 degree vision
5. AI gunners will empty their ammo into space behind a gently turning target - you're actually safer in front of an enemy fighter than behind one
6. Flight models change dramatically from patch to patch - the Fw190 is a different aircraft with every patch. Unimpressive.
7. High altitude FM is just wrong, yet we have P-51s, P-47s, B-17s, Me-262s, Me-163s etc.
8. Sneaky feeling that there is a pro-Russian bias. Were the I-16 or P-39 really that good? I don't think so.

Overall, the good things outweigh the bad, but it's surprising that so many serious faults persist so long after the launch of the original IL-2.

10-25-2003, 11:01 AM
I like external views because, its only a game, peripheral vision isn't modeled correctly, and I don't have a TIR2 yet.

I don't like external views because, when I load up with bombs to try and get some ground kills, some dork is watching every move I make from 30km away... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

Disclaimer: This is my opinion. Yours and others may vary.

10-25-2003, 11:05 AM
I like everything except the sound and the FMB.

Good things:

1. Superb graphics!
2. Ability to fly to your ability level- Full real to Newbie.
3. Focus on the air battle that most of us never learned about or felt was unimportant.
4. Steep learning curve for newer flight simmers - Promotes a much more mature following of people because there are less "Instant gratification" types. (Although you might not know that reading some of the posts in this forum /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif ).
5. Immursion level to taste.
6. Great maps.
7. Good playability, weather on or off-line.
8. Excellent support form the developer - not UBI, from 1C. This game is in a class all by itself in this respect. Oleg listens and he gives us what we want plus more, and stays true to his convictions. I respect that, even when I disagree with things. ~S~ to Oleg and 1C on this one!
9. Black-outs, Red-outs, Aircraft compressability.
10. Game compatability with such a wide variety of hardware.
11. No game physics cheats - Lag cheats are not withing Oleg's control.

Bad Things:

1. Sound.
2. Muzzle Flash
3. Poor high altitude modeling and graphics.
4. No dynamic weather.
5. No airframe stress limits = continuous "Bat" maneuvers.
6. Poor in-game team chat - Should be like Counter Strike (If valve can do it, 1C can do it better!)
7. Sound - oh I said that already, well, it's really that bad.
8. Inability to turn off regimental markings if desired during coops. (They cover my nice greenheart on some planes /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif ).
9. Although playability on line is great, the net coding seems to favor those with poorer connection.
10. Trim (I shouldnt have said that RBJ will be along shortly to comment!)
11. Inability to alter "Center" position of pilot - leaning is not modeled.

10-25-2003, 11:53 AM
The best things I like about the game.
1. The challenge. You can progress your skills in stages and keep the game interesting.
2. The other people that use the game, there is always a good story or tale and help with your problems with the people in the Discussion Group.
3. For the amount of different aircraft you can set up for different battles during WW2. Plus flying the variety of missions with the aircraft.
4. Where you can add different objects or changes to the game. As in the additional skins that people make for the aircraft or alternative flight missions.
5. And of course, the group of people that make this game possible. Thank's

What I don't like.
1. I'd like to see it possible to change add on skins more easily and on all levels, Quick Missions, ect... Not just online. You could then set up more variety of missions from different times of WW2.

Over all it's a Great Game! Thank's to All!
See Yah in the Air!

They do. You can't hear them from the cockpit, where you wouldn't IRL, but if you put the camera on the target area, you can hear them falling indeed.

I love everything except:
1: I think the FMB could be better
2: The sound issues could be better
3:I wish there were at least two more maps on the QMB

thats about it.......... I dont know enough about actual flight characteristics and how to properly test them to comment on them inFB. To me FBs FMs and DMs are the absoulute best in the sim genre.

I like:

Eyecandy - lot of it is included, but at least it is not real necessary for me...

I don´t like:

the 100% correct FM- changing after every patch (everytime since 1l2 Classic)

The undermodelled weapons, especially 2cm cannons for both sides

The stupid Headmovement in late 109 (Shift-F1, no human being can perform this movent, maybe the girl from "The Exorcist")

The fat lower strut in 190- I believed Oleg for a long time, that it was correct like it was modelled, but after the last researches from a guy- posting pictures from inside the cockpit with refraction of the amourd frontglas, I have to say: Oleg is wrong, and very resistant against learning /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

109 engines are more a kind of heater than an engine...
no idea what makes them so much worse than other inline engines...

* Great concern for authenticity
* Thriving, dedicated community providing supporting apps, help, and a good online experience
* Development team always striving to raise the bar
* Feels like flying! I personally liked the IL2 feel better but it still feels like flying. No other flight sim does this for me.

I like:

1.) The graphics, overall the best in the business.
2.) Complex damage modelling
3.) Lots of planes to fly. for now
4.) Improvement of Campaign briefing and debriefing over IL2

Don't like:
1.) The fact that they keep changing the FMs, especially
the 109 and P-39 series, evey patch from the start of IL2
until latest FB patch has been different. Which FM for these planes was right? All of them could not have been right and I don't think the current FMs are the best we've seen. Maybe the worse as far as late 109 and Me-262. They should put the P-39 in LOMAC, where it's flight model and capability would be more appropriate!!
2.) Sound stutters, especially when there's a lot of AI chatter occurring at the same time.
3.) Occasional graphic stutter during high speed aircraft merging.
4.) Due to complex ( but good ) graphics, you can't exactly have the entire Soviet and German airforce in the air at the same time, unless you run FB on a second-hand Cray supercomputer with a $5,000.00 video card. And you generally have to turn down the ground activity really low or you pay dearly in FPS department.
5.) AI behavior, not good for offline campaign fans. Onliners get the real deal here since they don't care about AI. AI kill stealing is worse than ever now, seems like they
are almost human in this way, which is not the way you want them to be humanlike!! As if they wait until they see you get a enemy plane on fire or just heavily damaged, then those damned AI compadres come for miles around to see if they can get the last burst of ammo into the plane you just worked soooooooo hard to kill!! I hate it when that happens.....
6.) AI use strange flight techniques, such as using waaay too much rudder in non-combat turning. Skidding through the sky with excessive rudder use makes it looks like planes are piloted by freeking chimpanzees, not humans. Very strange and dangerous ( not to mention unrealistic ) flying technique during escort missions, violent turns and overmuch full throttle operation. Flying lazy circles with nice east turns at 60% throttle is more like how they escorted planes in real life. Having a mid-air collision
with your wingman is not the way to die in war, and using all your fuel unneccesarily is not good escorting either.
